Is it time for the US to stop killing civilians in Afghanistan?
Edited on Wed Feb-04-09 04:28 PM by JackRiddler
There is nothing for coalition forces to accomplish and no excuse for this any more. Supposedly the new US government wants to escalate? (Not even a cut to the Pentagon budget?!)

Leave these people be!

US air raid fuels Afghan anger - 27 Jan 09

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCCYJwLw3ik&eurl

Includes statement by regional governor on how these were civilians and how the bombings are turning the people against his government and against the coalition.

(ON EDIT: Can someone show me how to embed video at DU? Thanks!)

1. Its been past time
Between NATO and joint US led forces, I think more civilians have been killed in reality than militants in Iraq and Afghanistan

5. Of course. You only have to apply the collateral damage doctrine...
to the idea of arresting a murderer in a US city, to see that it is utter barbarism.

The world was further along in 1928, with the treaty banning war signed by the United States among others?

8. Indeed. What has become acceptable standards of violence to the public
is, quite frankly, obscene. We have become so desensitized by the carnage that we forget these people are humans, and not dogs.

14. 'Smoke 'em out!' ' Dead or Alive!'
It's mind boggling that those terms would be used 'diplomatically' by a developed nation in the 21st century.

4. Weve been working on destroying lives in that country since the late 70s
Were finally starting to get good at it.

6. The Russians had far more troops
When they were in there and failed...it's a quagmire, I wish we'd try something completely outside the box. Troop escalation should be only if we are there building something or educating them. If 120,000 troops can't root out the evil factions in this country, 30-50k won't do it either. Don't just throw numbers at it. You have to make being a Terrorist organization in that country unpopular. Answers? I don't have them, but let some people other than war mongers have a say in how to win over a populous. Even if it means they don't mimic us in our beliefs. How would you bomb the "Bloods and Crypts" out of L.A.? Not by wiping out the whole neighborhood. It's a different animal.

9. Decriminalize the poppy = defund the warlords
And how much has the war there cost so far? Probably $100 billion.

How about "the coalition" ponies up the same amount for a fund to develop the country? How about clean drinking water and clean energy projects?

10. Make it hard to hate us instead?
Even the most ardent flag burner would have a hard time hating someone giving them clean water and medication instead of shrapnel.

11. Teach em how we do it in the U.S.A!
Our way is much better because we're taught to respect other human beings and their rights, thus making it just that much more savage! When a narrow minded un-free society does it, it just lacks that luster because it's expected! ; )
