I received a letter today from the Massachusetts Unemployment

office, sent out to notify claimants about extended filing hours. Be patient if you are trying to file on-line or by phone. Seems the state is overwhelmed with claims, over 200,000 people collecting, last year it was 107,000. The systems are overloaded and the phone is either a constant busy signal or a disconnect. I had to wait forever for my claim to complete the cycle when I logged on last Sunday.

In such a small state, that is a huge number. It does not include those who are no longer collecting.

What a sorry mess.

about twice as many as last year?

3. Small in area but 13th in population size and 3rd in population density.

I dodged the unemployment bullet so far, but the year isn't over yet.
