Ok just hear me out here
to really get Some jobs to Some people now -like yesterday, lets just say they take out everything the republicans are fighting, ok Whatever is holding it up and then they have nothing to hold it up so it passes. Then create other packages to help people and go from there? I know I'm missing things but please set me straight. Anything is better than nothing right ? I don't know about you guys but I've had enough push it through and vote or change it and go on we don't have the luxury of waiting. Really talk me down what am I missing?

1. They aren't going to vote for it, so they want to water it down as much as possible.
They know it will pass, but they want to make it as nasty as possible. That way, they can point their fingers and say, hey look, it didn't work, I told you so.

2. Yes, that's the idea.
That's why we've already "given up" on good but "expendable" legislation like the family planning business.

9. He's playing politics.
The goal is to get it passed by President's Day.

It's important to get it passed soon, yes, but a couple of days won't make a difference.

So if we can paint the Republicans as petty obstructionists, which they are, that'll work out for the best in the long term.

17. Bobby that is not at all what
I mean but if some people don't get better (like myself and I'm really not talking about me-just symbolic) I have done so much over the years to help anyone that is poor and or homeless (sure I could have done more) but I have given people my last 3 dollars when I had 5 I have given people rides I have asked people can I help you find somewhere to live can I help you get a job do you need to talk to someone can I bring you somewhere can I bring you something. I'll buy them a sandwich and I'll give them some money and ask can I drive you. Well guess what I CAN'T do that anymore because what I live on is from someone else. I still do it and struggle with it all the time. It is not mine to give. I am due to lose everything this month

I'm very angry that we are pitted against each other, and I'm angry that you are even suggesting it.

We get so tired of being told to VOTE, yet when it comes time to stand with us, it's so very easy to toss us out.
We vote, but that's all we do. There are no consequences for the way the people we elect vote once they get into office. Saying that in two years, or four years, they will be kicked out of office doesn't cut it. If people can't get their own representatives to do the right thing, and vote in their favor...what's the point?

I see where you're coming from. Sad to say, we'll have both sides barking at each other about this, while people are getting evicted, foreclosed on, and generally slipping off the edge. And then those folks WON'T COUNT anymore. The poor don't count - they get *disappeared* by BOTH sides.

But we'll still have barking.

38. No I'm NOT -- I'm saying EXACTLY what is happening
People don't give a shit, unless they are being hit by this downturn. You've seen it on this board. All the blathering about a package that really DOESN'T do much for the poor. Endless post after post about tax incentives for 50K cars, or tax incentives for people to Buy homes.

Not a whole hell of a lot for the 100k people who got shit-canned last week. Not very much discussion at ALL about the poor, or the newly poor. But DAMN, can a stink be raised about who is calling whom names, at what an ass-hole that R senator is.

Oh yeah -- the occasional (very occasional) "I Just lost my Job* post.

THAT'S when reality hits home, at least for the ones brave enough to admit they've been laid off.

And once those folks who DO *get it* actually *GET IT*, they are out of work, out of a home, and left holding their belongings on the street. And then THEY are effectively FORGOTTEN by the blatherers who want to argue more than really truly DO SOMETHING.

There have to be standards below which we are not willing to sink.

Those that stand for nothing will fall for anything, and anything is what you've proposed.

this Dem Congress and Dem President should stop the game playing and pretending to be looking for bipartisan support. They should pass a stimulus that finally does something for those on the very bottom. There is no reason to pit us against each other, that happened before and it doesn't work. You are right, anything is NOT better than nothing, there should be something for ALL who need it!!

51. See, that is the crux of the biscuit, as Frank said. There are innumerable reasons
to pit us against each other. As long as they can maintain the charade of two opposing sides and the illusion of choice, we will continue to ignore what they are actually doing and keep listening to what they say.

On the brighter side, the number people that recognize what they are seeing is growing, perhaps enough will see it in time.

I really wish had something good to say about this whole situation. Unfortunately, I don't think a stimulus will cut it. I really believe that we are seriously staring at the abyss. This financial problem is deep and wide. Where the hell is the bottom?

Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but I'm really unsure of alot of stuff right now. Just think of the stuff that we don't know....

Perserverence is tough. Will is hard to find. We gotta just keep going on. We've got your back. Hang in there...
