When is the State of the Union Address ?
I think it'll give Obama the unfiltered public ear he needs to explain in detail what the Stimulus package is and what it will mean to everyday people. Also, a chance to expose the Repubilcans and their game.

Anybody know ?

1. No official date. Not usually officially given in an inaugural year.

5. Since you brought it up
There is no reason that Obama can't give several SOTU addresses a year. The Constitution mandate is that the President regularly address congress.

I wish that Obama would call for a Joint meeting of the House and Senate and give a SOTU speech sooner rather than later. I also wish that he would stand for questions and that there be less of that standing ovation bull shit that has marked these things in the past.

9. I agree
I'd love to see them skip the handclapping and do some talking for all to see and hear.

11. That would be a fabulous bully pulpit from which to pressure the GOP to vote for the stimulus
The theme of his speech would be the emergency we face. Every republican (and a few democrats) would be reminded that pressure can be brought to bear. And Obama's tough enough to make that play if he feels it will help.

It's really freaking wonderful to have a president who surprises you. I can't get used to this. And I hope I never do.
