1. "Surviving Columbus" has been on PBS a few times

There are tribal historians here in NM who have written quite a few books on the subject, all of which have been great reads. When I first visited the area over 20 years ago, I pretty much cleaned out the history section of a small bookstore on Taos Pueblo.

It's a total antidote to the fairy stories that pass for high school American history.

2. I have visited a couple of Indian museums - the first was in the southwest

and it was interesting to see their side depicted. I went to Foxwoods casino in Connecticut to see what they had created and looked for the museum and it showed how every treaty we broke and took more and more land while now they are using the money they make on the casino to buy it back for the Indians. When I was out West another time, I went up to the Navajo flats up on the high mesas in the four corners areas if I remember correctly. I have picked up books on the Hopi too. I had a neighbor who was Cherokee but did not know until after I lived there a year. I find anytime they show something from the Native perspective it is quite fascinating. The T-shirt about the Terrorists and how they have dealt with it for a lot of years that I saw in Nevada was quite interesting too.
