For 8 years, I signed on the the internets to see the latest Bush horror. I supported Hillary, who I thought had the most balls of any politico in our party. Obama won - and I campaigned and voted for him. He won, and I waited breathlessly for him to be inaugurated. I looked forward to reading of new triumphs every day, once 20 January rolled around - or even earlier, I thought! We had big majorities in both houses - they would have bills waiting for the new president!
But now? I still log on every day. I see wingers in the Cabinet - cutting deals to support Dems appointing Goopers with the new Prez. I see one day a cap of salaries, and today an AP report that it will affect few - according the the CiC's own plan. No health care - except Schip - a no brainer. No energy plan. The stimulus we had to have NOW - well, let's give in to the Ellyfunks. Afghanistan war needs 30,000 more into the new meat grinder.
And then I remember the promises - and how Obama rolled on the Fisa bill (maybe I should just phone this in, so he can listen?). And I see brothers and sisters who marched and voted and cheered in their millions for him - hungry, homeless, and still hostage to the right wing. Harry Reid still with his dry powder.
But maybe I am too skeptical at age 60. Maybe the best thing to do is to stay off the news sites I love - DU and others - and not listen to Rachel and Keith, and not read my morning paper? Then, in 60 days, I will be proven wrong? I will find that there are jobs created, Al Franken seated, the filibuster rules history, health care and the environment and the economy well on their way to being fixed?
I will pop my groundhog head up then - on 5 April - and write what I see then. I hope my hibernation will be rewarded!
