What next? Pointing a rifle at audience members' heads to discuss the awareness of gun control?

Why not spray blood onto the audience to discuss AIDS? That's the ticket; just don't warn us beforehand to wear clothing over eczema scars or other unscabbed areas freshly picked...

Were the little skeeters clean, or did he collect them from areas filled with West Nile, Malaria, etc?

2. I too have mixed feelings, but there are still better ways to get the point across.

At least in theory...

4. Or Ebola
If he were a teacher, he'd be out of a job with a stunt like that.

6. I have mosquitos where I live so a jar won't make a huge difference

I have event been bit with them during the right season and lived to talk about it.

7. I'm sure he got clean ones.
Do you think he wants to get sick? He was more likely than anyone to get bit because he released them.
Terrible tactic but it made a point of sorts. I worked for a malaria vaccine program at NIH and you would be surprised how many Americans don't think money should be spent on this research because its not an American problem.

9. Plus wouldn't he be heading towards a lawsuit or even criminal charges?

11. yeah.
This a dumb scare tactic. I wish he could have thought up something better. Malaria is a very important topic.

8. I fail to see how being bit by a mosquito raises "awareness of malaria." To me, it raises awareness
of the jackassery of Bill Gates, and reminds me how much I hate mosquito bites.

10. Great! Because NO Americans have EVER been stung by a
mosquito before!

I didn't even know what they were until I read this article! :eyes:

What if I had a talk about pitbulls and unleashed the dogs on the audience. What he did is assault. Hope somebody calls him on it.

14. The perks of being a billionaire...
He has batallions of lawyers to deal with lawsuits, and he can throw a few thousand at any plaintiff to make him or her go away. It's just pocket change to him.

16. Oh, well in that case, his actions are completely justifiable.
Money wins again. Maybe his next stunt will be running around with a chainsaw in a local mall hacking patrons limbs off. He could probably get away with it since he's so rich and all. :eyes:

18. I never said it was justified.
Just that he can buy his way out of trouble. Of course it ain't right.

That said, I doubt much will come of this. Some big donors will give Bill some nasty phone calls and he'll find some other way to get attention.

13. I'm presuming he was responsible enough to use laboratory mosquitoes...
Or at least one of the species of mosquito that does not carry malaria.

Interesting stunt. One of the perks of being a billionaire is not having to worry about being fired for doing things like this...

17. Why the surprise?
Bill Gates is famed for inducing millions of people to pay for the privilege of working in a surprisingly buggy, irritating environment.
