HuffPo: Where's Obama's Grass-Roots Army? Conservatives Outphoning Liberals 100-to-1
BOTTOM LINE: Call 1-866-544-7573 and tell your Senators: Pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act NOW!

Where's Obama's Grass-Roots Army? Conservatives Outphoning Liberals 100-to-1

While the President's stimulus plan is being Swift Boated by Republicans pushing discredited tax-cutting nostrums, the oft-touted grassroots army that was supposed to help push the Obama agenda seems to be Missing in Action -- despite some valuable efforts by important progressive groups.

Campaign for America's Future , for example, is leading an aggressive effort to promote the stimulus package, but their latest email warns that supporters of the stimulus package and Obama's recovery plan are being outgunned 100-to-1 in phone calls to Congress:

100 to 1. We've gotten word from our progressive friends on Capitol Hill that for every one hundred phone calls to Congress from conservatives trying to obstruct change, there is only one phone call from a citizen demanding passage of President Obama's economic recovery bill.
Backed by this conservative grassroots pressure, Senate Republicans are moving rapidly as a block to obstruct -- pushing reforms that are designed essentially to make the plan fail. They're demanding that billions be cut from a plan that, if anything, is already too small, and that more be diverted to top-end tax cuts.

That's not how you create jobs or counter a recession.

We can't allow this partisan posturing in the midst of a national crisis. Progressives need to pick up the phone now to counter the onslaught of calls pouring into the Senate from conservatives.

Call 1-866-544-7573 and tell your Senators: Pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act NOW!

Consider what conservatives might succeed in passing if they continue to out-call us 100 to 1:

* Giving corporations a 30% tax cut, instead of investing in clean green energy that will put people to work.

* $3.1 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy that we know simply don't work to create jobs.

* Less help for states that will be forced to lay off workers, instead of funds to retain police and teachers.

1. As usual liberals lose interest once the election is over
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 01:04 PM by Uzybone
in that regard we are pathetic. Most of the time since the election we have spent knee-capping Obama over Warren, Gupta, cabinet picks and other rubbish. The conservatives keep their rabid eyes on the prize.

7. It's been 3 months since he won the election by a fairly wide margin.
Do I have to call him every week and remind him I got his back?

I don't think calling my GOP Senator or Congressional rep will do much other than get me on a spam list.

8. another trouble is that the M$M is pushing the "stimulus sucks" meme
The other problem is that many Republicans are from conservative states that Obama lost. I don't believe that it does me any good to lobby Roberts or Brownback. Roberts just handily won re-election and Brownback isn't running again. Although he is running for Governor, but Kansas Republicans are pushing the "government has grown too much" and so they don't care if jobs are slashed to balance the state budget.

10. I do believe this constitutes a distortion
I seem to recall that they said that there were 100-1 calls against the TARP bailout, but then claimed that opinion shifted to the other side.

Excuse me?

Still, this is the Republican owned media's push- their talking points are BS and no one is calling them on them. I rarely watch CNN as it is, but every time I flip through, it's about how the stimulus is "all pork."

Bush cut all of these programs into oblivion, and the RW stooges want to keep them gone. I hate memes created by stupid people.
