Oh, Please, No More Faith-Based!
Why does the new administration believe that it has to cater to faith-based? Think about it. One might as well say "superstition-based" or "off the wall" based. It is only an expression of what goes on in an individual's head, no reason involved.

It is often abused. Do you know any clergypeople who aren't well-off? I'm sure that there are some, but the ones I know manage to skim enough off all the perks they get that they live better than the rest of us.
What would Jesus say?

1. Because there is a "Superstition-based Industrial Complex."
And they have lobbyists.

2. What's the problem?
Obama made it clear during the campaign that he would retain/expand faith based funding. Its part of the package - the bipartisan package.

3. A lot of people believe that churches should help out in time of need.
When the need grows there isn't enough cash to help all who need it. I have no problem with helping churches help others as long as they are non discriminatory and don't proselytize. If their message is anti gay I think they should not get federal money.

4. In some areas, its the only support network that is in place unfortunately.
Our govt has become really bad at taking care of people in need... they've left it to many non-profits.. many of them are churches trying to do the right thing. not all church or religious people are fundie church people... sadly, though, they are the one's in many locations that are available and have the resources to get immediate relief to those who need it. The Salvation Army, wouldn't that be considered a faith based, non-profit organization?

6. Religious hospitals get paid
I don't see why other religious organizations, like pre-schools and day cares, can't get paid if they are providing a secular service.

for church/state separation issues.

I'll bet that many of them that sucked at bush's fantasy based teat won't even bother with Obama's because - like the biz big wigs - they can't take the oversight.

In fact, Obama could have this thing run in a way that it puts itself out of business.
