Period.

Second-hand smoke knows no boundaries and it is a Class-A carcinogen.

5. Ex-Smoker. I don't have a judgmental opinion.
It's not my business to "approve" or disapprove of others personal choices.

I can support bans on smoking in enclosed public places. Because that affects my health and the health and comfort of others. But what someone else does in private, or in wide open spaces away from affecting others - is none of my business.

Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 09:25 PM by panader0
Those who get down on smokers, have some vice too. If you are overweight, you are just as much of a burden to the taxpayer. Why not a tax akin to that on tobacco for fast food or Little Debbies? Then you could pay $20 for a burger. Most of the money spent for cigarettes is tax already. Yeah, let's make everything illegal.
Do you drive? Your car is more harmful to others by far than a person who smokes at home or outdoors.

I have huge problems with non-smokers regressively taxing smokers to pay for SCHIP when those same non-smokers clearly don't think that helping children get healthcare is important enough to pay one red cent for it themselves.

25. You DON'T?? Don't you know that ALL deaths due to tobacco smoke are from ETS/second-hand smoke??
It MUST be so ... since the statistics can't be wrong. Even those who smoke are harmed SOLELY by the sidestream/ETS smoke .. because they get it in higher concentration. The figures can't lie ... can they???

(I think it's pretty bizarre that the pseudo-science comes up with stats that make this an inescapable conclusion.)

38. I'll qualify this
IN an ideal world addictive substances, whether it is alcohol, tobacco et al, would not be needed by humans, due to all the health consequences

In the world we live in prohibition leads to a war

So I approve of this, and any other drug, even those we deem illegal right at the moment, but with heavy regulation and chiefly taxation

THere are medical effects from doing any of these drugs, whether it is weed (which also has medical uses) or digs, or alcohol, or crack or any of the rest. We need to pay for them... period

Oh and if you smoke, I kindly ask, not at my home, or around me... my asthma really hates it.

I choose not to smoke. What others do is their business. People act like smoking is a moral issue. I disagree with that stance. It's a health issue, not a moral issue.

Jelly donuts are unhealthy, too. Do you approve or disapprove of jelly donuts?

Edited to add: I do agree with bans on smoking in public places, because that affects the health of others. Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins. Your right to smoke ends where my right to not breathe it in begins. I do get sick with too much indoor exposure to second-hand smoke. I mean seriously, migrainey, pukingly ill.
