Sarah Palin: What I've Learned
Edited on Thu Feb-05-09 09:55 PM by Tab

Edited to add link. I didn't include a lot of stupid things, like how she doesn't go anywhere with her Carmex (lib balm) or whatever.

Bored, anonymous, pathetic bloggers who lie annoy me.

You have to let it go. Even hard news sources, credible news sources — the comment about, you can see Russia from Alaska. You can! You can see Russia from Alaska. Something like that — a factual statement that was taken out of context and mocked — what you have to do is let that go.

If I were giving advice to myself back on the day my candidacy was announced, I'd say, Tell the campaign that you'll be callin' some of the shots. Don't just assume that they know you well enough to make all your decisions for ya. Let them know that you're the CEO of a state, you're forty-four years old, you've got a lot of great life experience that can be put to good use as a candidate.I bite my lip when I'm tempted to wisecrack, because I'm always thinking of something that I'd love to say but know that I better not say it because of the position that I'm in.

There is one America, but there are different priorities reflected in individual Americans that certainly can stand in stark contrast with — I'll give you an example. Some people, money is the be-all, end-all to them. Money and power, prestige, a title next to their name is the be-all, end-all. Other people, the highest priority would be their character, their reputation, their word, and money has nothing to do with that. The beauty of America is that individuals making up this great country do have different priorities. And that's the contrast that I would point out.

We pulled out of some states that I believe we should have continued to campaign in and sent a stronger message that those states really mattered, regardless of the number of electoral votes there. The people mattered. I would have loved to have had more influence on where it was that we campaigned.

Running is my sanity. Sweat is my sanity. And that was a frustration of mine on the campaign trail, when we couldn't carve out a half an hour or an hour a day to run. The day never went as well as it would have had I had that time to go sweat.

Time to let go, Sarah!

14. You mean the bloggers who will stand between you and any office you plan to run for, Sarah?
THOSE bloggers?? You annoy us, also. So let's make a deal. You leave public offices on the federal level alone and we'll leave you alone. Deal?? I'm sure AK bloggers will do the same on the state level and it sure is fun, by gollygosh, going to sites like Mudflats and watching them do just that.

"You have to let it go"?? Obviously you haven't mastered that yet.

And remember..somewhere out there, these same bloggers are reading interviews like this one and clicking on "add to favorites" so in 2010 and beyond, it is one less thing we will have to Google when we look for quotes/comments/articles that will ONCE AGAIN, keep you out of whatever office you are running for...

18. ...the people were like a big part of it from the beginning with the, you know,
voting process and everything, but they just sent me the clothes that were pretty nice clothes and then said there wouldn't be that many tv events or interviews. So I was like, What do you mean, isn't that why you sent the nice clothes? Because they were pretty nice. Stuff like that you won't find in any thrift shop, let me tell ya, so Todd says, Go ahead an try them on honey, so we do that, because there wasn't any interviews anyway, and he really liked me in them, liked the way I looked, and yes, I don't mind telling you, there was talk about maybe me running for president and all, and Todd says, Hey honey, why not save these outfits and use them to run for the White House. Todd is always so sweet that way, and he likes sports too, we both do really. So do our kids. Here hold my baby, would you? Little babies and seat belts just wrinkle my outfits. Up in the plane when we shoot wolves we don't even have to wear seatbelts. They're so, you know, restricting. Which is why I don't think there should have been that many interviews anyway. It's easier when they write up a speech, like in St. Paul, and then I just wear a nice outfit and read the speech. Those delegates sure did cheer loud for me that night. It was so fun to get famous mostly all in one night. Plus I like being on tv because why be famous if you can't be on tv, and I just know Cindy McCain wishes she was as pretty as I am, and Todd didn't say anything because he was looking for the baby, that baby is so hard to keep an eye on because you never know which of our kids is going to be holding it next. From our front porch we can see a day-care center which is where we might leave the baby when I run for president in my nice clothes. Also if I run for president Todd can make more money and we can be even more famous. Presidents of other countries will call me on the phone to talk and I can go hunting with some of them if they want to. The people really like me because I play sports and can gut a moose and because I'm reallly pretty. They've even done, like, polls and stuff that show how popular I am...

27. I certainly hope not.
She's a total failure as a governor in my opinion. Lots of promises, no results. We've got serious problems here, and rather than do anything about them, she'd rather suck up to the media.

I have many posts in my Journal about her issues in Alaska since she returned from the campaign trail. It's not pretty.

30. A tale of misguided priorities
What is sad about the whole thing is the dear governor has not learned to prioritize and value her family's privacy by constantly entertaining interviews. She does not realize everything she says is fodder for the comedians and bloggers. It buys her nothing for 2012.

The best thing for Gov. Palin is to lay low and settle her family's life -- taking a cue from Mrs. Obama -- first job (besides governing) is to ensure her children's transition goes smoothly. Palin put her family in an emotional and physical upheaval for at least 4 months -- including dealing with Trig's developmental challenges, Bristol's pregnancy, Track going to war. Palin really needs to focus on her children's well being. Last but not least get things straight with the law...

35. This quote at the link within the link
is so stereotypical Palin -- surely she knows how much we all laugh at this.

"And also, of course, to let Americans know that I can laugh at myself, too."

"Also, too"? All that's missing is an "again" somewhere.

37. Hold on. I can't believe I'm saying anything that sounds like defending Sara Palin, but...
Why should Palin take cues from Mrs Obama?

Scott Palin is the spouse of the AK governor. Using your Obama example, if the family life needs to be settled, it should be his job to do it.

A mom's place is not necessarily in the home. We shouldn't embrace convenient stereotypes either.

If a woman's first job, by virtue of her gender, is to the family, then I'd prefer elected officials for whom governing is more than moonlighting.

36. Gov. Palin says that all she ever needed to know she learned from sports.
That does not speak very well of sports.

In addition to not seeming to know very much about anything at all, she also appears to be profoundly clueless in the cultural arena. I'm not getting that she "gets" things.

Katie Couric reduced Palin to a babbling, one-dimensional, half-baked fool in what was hardly a hard-hitting interview. Gov. Palin, who can't even withstand questions from Couric, wouldn't fare very well in an interview with Amy Goodman or anyone else.

There's no question that Palin is interested in the GOP nomination in 2012. "I dress nicely, I murder wolves from the sky, vote for me."

The news lately has been of the Middle East/Gaza disaster and the stimulus package. Instead of seeking a position and profile on these issues, we learn in the media that Palin is upset with Ashley Judd for Judd's criticism of Palin's aerial wolf slaughtering.

If Ashley Judd can tie Gov. Palin up over wolf shoots then a case could be made that Huckabee and Romney likely won't encounter much difficulty wiping Palin off the face of the political map in the 2012 Iowa caucuses.
