Poll question: Are you having a midlife crisis?
We've all heard the cliches about men and midlife crises -- they buy a motorcycle, they buy a sports car, they start dating someone young enough to be their daughter... In the meantime, women are now having midlife crises. What does this have to do with politics, you're asking?

Are women making political decisions on what's important based on the sense of urgency that comes over us in our 40's, for instance?

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1059032-4,00.html

I scoffed at Facebook originally; I thought it was a waste of time. Right now, though, I'm in the midst of a fascinating conversation with some of my former classmates on the subject of what happened to them at 40 and beyond.

So, what's up with you? Let's hear it.

4. As long as you remain in a state of midlife crisis...
you can be sure that you still have half a lifetime ahead of you.

6. I'm having a raging one
Up to and including a crush on a much younger man. Luckily, we don't know each other. :woohoo:

I'm in the "oh, God, I have thirty years or so left, and there's so much more I want to do and see," thing.

14. My husband's not so sure about it
We saw Aretha Franklin years ago in Chicago. She was talking about the fact she'd gained some weight. She said "I'll take it off with Slim-Fast and young men."

I didn't quite get what she was talking about until recently. ;-) Perhaps she was the very first cougar! :woohoo:

3. Early bloomer, I had mine in my late 20's
quit my professional job to work retail, then in a musuem - almost wound up a kept man. Snapped out of it when musuem went broke and lady friend went Sunset Blvd.

9. On my third one...
First one - sold everything and moved to the Virgin Islands.

Second one - quit my nice steady job and started my own company, went $100K into debt.

Third one - forced out of my job, more or less homeless, thinking about mining gold.

10. So, as long as we're still there, we're not old yet, are we?
lapfog, I hope this works out for you.

One thing's for sure -- I regret the stuff I didn't do, instead of the stuff I did.

11. No, I've barely past adolescence.
My wife says I have "Peter Pan" syndrome. I may have one when I'm 70.

13. Did it about 14 years ago.
It hit Mr. NoD & me at the same time. So we went on a combination Second Honeymoon and Midlife Crisis Ride. On the motorcycle. Camping. From Fairbanks, Alaska to Merritt Island, Florida. And back.

Took a year. Had a ball, spent every penny we had, met with old friends, made new ones.

It was great.

16. This sounds amazing!
One of the better things about this age: The kids are grown and gone, or on their way.

We didn't have them in the first place. :woohoo:

17. At 47 I'm not living my life any differently than I did when I was younger.
I've been having the time of my life ALL my life.

It's all good! :)

18. I had mine in my 30s.
I marched with the Black Bloc, womanned some barricades, got in some CodePink action, and had flings with a few younger men.

I'm going through early menopause now (at 40), and my sense is more of resignation than urgency. I never had anything like a normal life, and most likely never will. So far, I've been what the kiddies these days call EPIC FAIL. But hey, at least I fucking tried.

19. You did the things you wanted to do
You tried to improve the world around you.

There is no failure there. At least, I don't think so.

20. I paid an enormous cost for it
I haven't had a job in over 6 years, my mental and physical health has deteriorated, and I'm a financial burden on my family. The hollow-eyed ghosts of Iraqi children will haunt me forever. They don't accuse me or anything, they are just a mute reminder of my failure, and that of the Left in general.

But I'm still here, still queer, and uppity as I ever was, so I'll count that as a sort of victory.

Midlife was a drag for me personally. I like being in my 60s.

24. Oh, NOD, you're too kind.
And, yes, we're still going to Nome. Counting the days at this point. :)

Speaking of Nome, don't you think it would be a far better idea to build a rail line to Nome rather than Sarah's stupid road idea?

25. YESYESYESYES and, um, YES!
Rail to Nome, Kotz, Whitehorse, Ft. Yukon - let's get those arteries going to Southeast, Southwest - I love travelling on the railroad and it makes SO much sense in this state for moving people, and goods.
