they printed my letter on the war on poverty

To the Editor,

Texas is the highest ranking .... when it comes to childhood poverty and hunger.

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured children in the nation, with 20.2 percent lacking coverage, compared to 11 percent nationally. More than 80 percent of uninsured children have at least one working parent. More than one out of every four children in Texas lives in poverty. There are an estimated 137,500 homeless children in Texas alone.

As we retreat behind the walls of our well-groomed subdivisions, there is an rising epidemic of hungry, of homeless and of hopeless children. As we continue to funnel our nation’s treasury into a hopeless cesspool of war, wouldn’t that money be better spent bringing hope to these future generations? Have we lost our humanity?

3. What an awesome letter!
It's so concise and well written. It says so much with so few words. I wish I could write like that. Good job!

4. Wonderful letter,w8liftinglady
You did a good job of pointing out the plight of poor Texas children. Those statistics should shame every Texan in the state. Are these the "good, conservative values" that people mean when they cast their votes for Republics? If those are the values, then those who vote Republic should be deeply, deeply ashamed of their mean spirited neglect of those less fortunate.

7. This deserves high praise.
It takes so little to help. And so much has been given to the monsters. And yet the rich don't need what the poor don't even have.

When I see empathy it fills me with pride. There is no greater reward than helping to bring those with so little to a place of dignity and comfort.

This is why DU is a place to cherish.

10. It's an abomination
The richest country in the world. Yet the poor still live in almost third-world level poverty.

Some example to the rest of the world.

Shame on the government of Texas. NOW will the people of Texas realize that they're not getting any
favors from an endless stream of right-wing extremists in power?

K&R.
