Living in the land of make believe
I was reading through all the posts today and was struck suddenly with what that real attraction of the republican party is. The republican party isn't about smaller government. We all know it's done quite the opposite. It's not even about less regulation, that's just a symptom. It's not about anti-choice and it's not about suppressing the rights the rights of the current minority in the target circle. That's all pablum to garner support.

The real message of the republican party and the one that led us into the financial crisis we're in is "money for nothing". It's the same basic reason lots of us still go down and plop down a buck once or twice a week for that 1 in oh so many million shot at the powerball. They hooked Americans into believing that money would magically appear out of thin air without having to work for it. Fast easy credit card, unbelievable mortgages, a for profit health care system that's totally out of control. All these things were delibrately created to do exactly one thing. Create money from nothing. The illusion of course is that it trickles down. It doesn't. The land of make believe belongs to an elite few and the rest get to pay for the E-Ticket for those few to ride.

The trick now is to separate the issues in the mind of the public. Point out the obstructionism again and again and again on bread and butter issues every day, all day, so the disney repubs can't cloak themselves in other issues. We need to take them on in line by line issues. Don't let them change the subject.

When it's time to talk about the budget, spending and stimulus bills don't let them change the subject to pro choice or anti rights base issues. Make them focus and don't let them rally their base.

When it's time to talk about LGBT rights don't let them talk about the budget and spending. Make them, force them to address how granting someone else rights will diminish them personally.

When it's time to talk about torture, don't let them use weasel words. Call it what it is and ask them where they stand. Don't let them equivocate. Force them to take a stance.

When they obstruct, make them go all the way. Make them do it front of everyone publically. Force the fillibuster. Gods darn old fashion read from the phone book all nights long cots in the senate for weeks fillibuster.

It's time to click the ruby slippers and come back to reality I think. They (the repubs) aren't going to do it themselves, so we have to do it for them like dragging the embarassing screaming child from the toy store after being told a solid final NO.

1. when I talk to repubs, (and when I was one myself)
it was always about, "should". People should do this or that, people should be more this or that, people shouldn't do or say that. If only the world was the way it "should" be. I think Bushie boy lived out his presidency that way--ideologically. Makes it so much easier to make a decision--although it is frequently wrong. Add being in a bubble to that and you have a disaster--and we did.

Something about their inability to see shades of gray too. Something is good or evil, of God or of the Devil. Punish the bad and reward the good, etc.

They just can't get past their "shoulds".

2. They are a greedy parasite killing the host.
They are gorged and bloated, it's time to shake 'em off before it's too late, they won't let go by themselves.
