Republicans are perfectly okay with unemployment that matches 1974
because ......well we have more PEOPLE now, so the numbers are "not that bad"..

Tell that to all the 6.3 million people who lost their jobs in the last 3 months:(...(according to MSNBC's numbers)

and we all know that everything costs the same now, as it did back in 1974 :eyes:

1. Yes, but the world will come to an end if we tax their blessed investments too much.

2. We need to campaign against what Republicans are doing, as actively as we did for Obama to win ...
Republicans are very savage and very organized. If we lie down again as we did for the past 30 years and don't keep fighting, we are going to be toast.

3. The problem we have , is the same one we've had for 30 years..
We have no Rush/Sean/Laura/BillO/Savage/etc on the FREE radio 24-7, and we have no Heritage Foundation, CATO, AEI pumping out "policy papers" by the truckload, and straight into editorial papers of every newspaper..and we have only Keith & Rachel, compared to ..everything else..

It's no accident that in a coup d'etat, the FIRST thing they do is take over the media..all of it..

MESSAGE and the transmitting of the message is EVERYTHING..

5. You're right, but Obama managed to organize us- we were all organized via the Internet. -
It was the reason I became a campaigner and canvassed door to door. He gave instructions that were passed down to all of us. There's strength in those of us who are active, as long as someone organizes us.

Also, we have to learn from the Repukes. When they want to pass a bill (and all of their bills are evil), they come up with a name that will cause the middle class to believe it's good for them.

We, on the other hand, come up with bills that will help the middle class, and we give it a name that the uneducated people of the U.S. do not understand how it applies to them.

We need to appeal to those that matter.

Lastly, they have the churches in their pockets because religion almost always lends itself to doing evil. Sorry, but it does. Churches are free PACS for them. They were brilliant. Way back 30 years ago they came up with two foolproof ideas to unite Christians: abortion & anti-gay ideas. They've been united ever since.

Suddenly, lots of Christian leaders were found to be crooks, sexual fiends, etc. What did we do? Instead of jumping on the bandwagon and bringing that point home till we destroyed those links that united Christians with the GOP, we did nothing.

Dems are too nice, prefer to do nothing, and so here we are again, trying to sing kumbaya with neo-nazi Repukes.

I get very frustrated.

6. and we always telegraph our intentions, giving them ample time
to come up with a truckload of monkeywrenches, just waiting to be thrown into every plan...

until they are beaten back into a truly minority party..less than 20% in congress (probably their true numbers, nationwide), they will always confound us..

They have a LOT riding on hurting Obama, right off the bat.. The media will carry all the water they can deliver to them, and do it gleefully, because they love nothing more than building up and tearing down..a two-fer story:(

7. We always do, don't we? :( I thought we'd have gotten smarter by now...

From the beginning, I thought the whole, "let's be bipartisan and work together" idea Obama had was delusional, but I got taken to task for even daring to say that.

4. Of course they are. This means that people are willing to work
for lower wages and fewer benefits. It's a dream come true for them.

8. I went through 1974. I was on unemployment for over a year.
My advice is to fill your time. I used to cruise the paper in the public library for all the free stuff in town that week and plan the week around it. I also did all the free tourist stuff in Boston, and there was a hell of a lot of it to do. I got stronger walking my arse off around town.

If you don't have anything even like organ and choir performances in churches (yes, I went to those, too), spend your time honing new skills you can read about in the public library. I did that too, and turned into a tolerable cook and seamstress.

Nothing is worse during one of these periodic GOP cockups than sitting around alternately fuming and panicking. Been there, done that, got off my arse and filled the time. Trust me, it was better that way.

9. ONE thing costs the same as it did in 1974.
LABOR.

Only we work longer hours than our 70s counterparts. They can now get Dad AND Mom for what they used to be able to just get Dad OR Mom for.

And THAT'S the problem.
