Dems should hire me
earlier this week, when it was looking more and more like the repubs would filibuster the jobs bill, I posted a suggestion on the DU

my suggestion was to get a big counting clock thing, program it to tick of the average number of jobs lost per hour - my figures this morning indicate approx 333 jobs are lost per hour

put it in front of the senate chambers and every hour or so, send a Dem out to stand in front of the clock and give a short statement to the press about how things are going...i.e. Repubs are still obstructing the jobs bill

well well well, driving home today, the clouds must have been in the right position, because I managed to pick up Randi Rhodes show out of Buffalo NY. Randi wasn't on, she had a sub in for the show. Nancy Skinner... and whaddayaknow... Nancy Skinner is spouting off how the Dems should have a big clock ticking off the number of jobs lost due to repubs obstruction...

my partner keeps telling me it's a matter of GMTA. But I don't know about that, alot of my "ideas" seem to have crept into various political arenas.

For instance, back in 2004 - I wrote about having a choice between HOPE and FEAR - specifically geared towards the Kerry - bush campaigns. What did I hear from Obama this past campaign season? Choice between Hope and Fear.

In 2004, and then in 2007 I wrote about how it's not FAMILY VALUES it's VALUING THE FAMILY. In 2004, shortly after putting that out, I heard Kerry say in a speech "it's not family values, it's valuing the families." After the 2nd time I put the notion out in 2007 - I heard Hillary saying the same thing in one of her speeches.

Finally, I was putting the whole idea of an apollo type project to break the oil habit. Pointed out how it would also create new jobs, new technologies, and many side benefits along the road of reaching that goal.

What did I hear during the 2008 campaigns? Apollo project to get off of oil, create jobs, develop new technologies....

GMTA, or are my posts being read and passed along?

There's a BUNCH of us whom they should hire, including that guy above me who posted the first post, who could produce some hum-fucking-dinger speeches.

Your thinking is SPOT ON. And that visual aid idea is a FABULOUS idea!!! I'm glad it's being spread around a little.

The Democrats damn well better get their faces out there in front of ANY camera and mic they see, and if necessary, FORCE their way onto the airwaves. Do stunts. Lots of visuals. The more clever and eye-catching the better. Generate lots of talk. Hog the cameras. Remember who your target is: the dumbed-down couch potatoes who've been convinced that others can do their thinking for them.

We have had approximately 30 years of mental programming by the bad guys - and YES, they ARE the bad guys. They should be consistently identified and labeled as such. We have been programmed - as reagan started doing in his first inaugural speech - when he said "government IS the problem." Our fellow citizens have been programmed to think that government = bad, taxes (which fund that government and all the things it handles because a federal government is what handles all the issues, problems, and needs that are bigger than we can handle individually or locally by ourselves) = bad. No one is consistently making the case that taxes aren't just some random money that you're not allowed to keep, but that tax money goes to pay for road repair, emergency services, police and fire, food inspections. Consider for example that contaminated food we imported with our blinders on from China. Remember all that stuff that got recalled? How 'bout all those peanut/peanut butter foods that had to be recalled because nobody bothered to do any serious inspections at domestic processing plants?

I could go on...

Taxes have to be re-branded. The idea of paying taxes should be branded as a very patriotic ALL-American thing to do. Like paying tuition to a really great school. Like paying membership fees to the most outstanding country club in the country - the one with the most terrific perks and advantages and prestige and other benefits of membership. Freedom indeed ISN'T free. Just like the bad guys' bumper stickers say. Freedom ISN'T free because it costs money to maintain. And it's not just maintained by armys and guns and bullets and bombs and torture chambers. It's maintained by a standard of living, consumer protections, guaranteed rights, the idea that you're safe and secure in your own home - from burglars, fire, bankruptcy, or Act of God, and more. THAT, TOO, is Homeland Security.
