They will work out some kinks in conference, hopefully. And, then we will just have to pass the rest of it as separate bills.

but the shrub was 'wrong-headed' and we don't want to validate in ANY WAY that sort of direction.

31. BINGO. People need to remember that. |

Plus, you can't filibuster a conference report, so it will get better.
Thank God for Nancy Pelosi (did I really just say that?)

and then you only need 50 in the Senate

You only need 50 the 2nd time around in the Senate? That's awesome! I did not know that. Can't they just throw back all the spending they initially had and get rid of a lot of the tax cuts then?

28. Then why are people freaking out? |
|
Isn't it Reid and Pelosi--two Dems--working out the compromise? Surely, it's not going to be the 58-42 split in the end then.

10. Depends on what it ends up as |
|
If it's not going to work, he should definitely veto it. If they're really going to cut school construction and greening federal buildings and some of Reinvestment part of the bill, then he should veto it.

My advice is that he starts pushing for Stimulus 2.0, coming sometime this summer.
Yep, we're going to have multiple rounds of stimulus. I'll bet that was President Obama's plan to begin with - it's easier to cram stimulus bills down the Rethug's throats if you break it into pieces.

Obama should just use the signing statement to put in what he wants and take out what he doesn't want. Chimpy did it all the time.

19. No, sign it and immediately demand a supplemental stimulus bill |
|
Perhaps in the Senate they could take the spending that was cut from this bill and fold it into the FY budget resolution, which is not allowed to be filibustered.

It ultimately is not going to do what we need the economy to do: put people back to work. It is going to give those already in the 'middle class' (read: Pelosi and Reid's contributors) another tax cut. And not repeal the Bush Tax Cuts.
They're putting Obama in the position to look like the bad guy and be labeled 'the obstructionist' for not signing it, but IMO he needs to put on the Big Boy Pants & veto it as many times as it takes until they send him the plan he originally wanted.

|
Let's see what actually hits his desk before we start talking about a veto as I suspect that a lot of these "compromises" will get fixed in Conference.
