You probably shouldn't have upgraded to the super high speed Internet . . . those tentacly folks from the Lagoon Nebula seem to think we're stealing their bandwidth.

11. Would that be something triggered from my computer?
I am running a PC, with a high-end security system (ESET), but I admit to knowing little about how these things work in real life.

I just set the security for daily updates, and do regular scans, including with malwarebytes, but nothing ever gets flagged.

23. Actually...
I think, as archaeology and anthropology work more closely, and discover more, your idea of the broad range of cultural influences will prove to be the correct one.

25. On a serious note...
Its an incredibly interesting question, what exactly comes from cultural transmission and what is 'archetypal' and just happens to appear across cultures. I hope its one that is explored in more detail

28. You know, if you are ever interested in pursuing the potential in this issue...
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 02:25 AM by Adsos Letter
William Dever, one of the American heavyweights of Syro-Palestinian archaeology, has written a work: What Did the Biblical Writers Know, and When Did They Know It http://www.amazon.com/What-Biblical-Writers-Know-When/dp/080282126X/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233991222&sr=8-6

in which he argues strenuously for an integration of sciences, and a much greater cooperation between specialists, in order to gain better interpretation of the large volumes of raw information that are being gathered, and the data produced.

I read it for a graduate class on "The Historiography of the Bible," taught by one of the university's archaeologists, and it was great.

36. You are most welcome! Two others that can be read to round out the sides in the argument...
The Bible Unearthed: Archaeology's New Vision of Ancient Israel and the Origin of Its Sacred Texts by Neil Asher Silberman and Israel Finkelstein.

http://www.amazon.com/Bible-Unearthed-Archaeologys-Vision-Ancient/dp/0684869136/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234075194&sr=8-1

and

Ancient Israel in Sinai: The Evidence for the Authenticity of the Wilderness Tradition by James K. Hoffmeier

http://www.amazon.com/Ancient-Israel-Sinai-Authenticity-Wilderness/dp/0195155467/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1234075313&sr=1-1

All three argue issues of historiography from different angle, and critique each others works in their introductions.

Happy Reading!

27. Yes, that's the one...
it worked fine for me originally, and most others, including Mac users, have reported no problems.

However, a couple of others have reported some kind of unasked for scan, and my security will no longer allow me to connect to the link, though it worked fine earlier.

I don't know how to read the location of the problem.

I'm glad they caught it!

Hey, OT, but I went through the photo threads posted in your sig-line...fantastic work! So many of us are guided by such a dearth of understanding about other cultures, and suffer from a subsequent lack of a full sense of common humanity.

And the world in general pays the price.

I consider myself fortunate to have had the exposure I have.

31. Thanks for looking through
Luke Powell's photos. They tell far more truth about Afghanistan than the Corporate Media will even hint at. My fantasy world would have every human at the age of 20-30 given a free 2nd class bus/train/plane pass to anywhere and not allowed to return within one year. No one can ever go anywhere, unless shielded by enclosed compounds and military bases) without learning that "we" includes them.
