I sell antiques for a living and recently found this in a stack of old games. Boondoggling, the Game for Brain-Trusters, was self-published in 1936 by Lucien H. Platt (a Navy repuke) and somebody named Harold W. Hansen, whom I haven't been able to identify yet.

As the photos show, the republicons despised FDR's New Deal but weren't above making money from it, and in a manner so typical of their small-minded, hateful brethren today.

As much as things change they stay the same. :eyes:

1. They've been trying to re-make Monopoly for YEARs now... And have never come close
So hey, they've advanced to "parody" in their farcical journey. More power to them, maybe someday they'll actually understand some of the finer points of literacy.

3. Heh. I especially like the "Borrowed from Posterity for political prosperity" BS.
They coined the current-day repuke slogan.

5. Shhhh....you might give the Drug Addict and the Freepers ideas
And their cheap knockoffs of Monopoly would probably be chock full of racism and homophobia too.

10. It has racism. Several times they depict WPA workers with black face caricatures.
For example:

Re homophobia: I don't have the game in front of me this morning but I believe there's a section with a man in a ballet tutu. They covered all the favorite repuke ideals!

12. As a collectible game, not so much. As a tangible history of GOP lies and hate, priceless.

9. Here's a nice graphic:
http://www.lafn.org.nyud.net:8090/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.jpg
http://www.lafn.org/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.html

If someone tells you the New Deal was a boondoggle, you can tell them that the pre-WWII additions to the national debt under Roosevelt was less than 1/8 of the additions to the national debt under Bush: that's in constant (2008) dollars -- and it doesn't include the massive bank bailout at the end of Bush's second term.

The calculation is done as follows: look up the outstandstanding debts and apply the inflation factor to convert to 2008 dollars

06/30/1932 Debt: 19,487,002,444.13 Factor: 15.51
06/29/1940 Debt: 42,967,531,037.68 Factor: 15.17

09/30/2000 Debt: 5,674,178,209,886.86 Factor: 1.23
09/30/2008 Debt: 10,024,724,896,912.49 Factor: 1.00

Multiply the debts by the factors to compute the debts in 2008 dollars:

06/30/1932 Debt (2008$): 302,243,407,908.46
06/29/1940 Debt (2008$): 651,817,445,841.61

09/30/2000 Debt (2008$): 6,979,239,198,160.84
09/30/2008 Debt (2008$): 10,024,724,896,912.50

Subtract and compute ratio:

1932 - 1940 Addition to Debt (2008$): 349,574,037,933.15
2000 - 2008 Addition to Debt (2008$): 3,045,485,698,751.66
Ratio: 8.712

When Republicans say they're worried about balancing the budget, they're lying

13. We should counter with a game based on that graphic
but also include neighborhoods for the sexcapades of Vitter, Craig, Haggart, etc. Emphasis on *'s base getting theirs, waging unfunded wars, decreeing unfunded mandates for education, etc.

14. Excellent graph. The commentary is also interesting:
Bill Clinton steadily reduced the debt increase while he was in office, thanks largely to the 1993 Debt Reduction Act* that was OPPOSED BY EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN IN CONGRESS, led by Newt Gingrich! The Republicans claimed that the Debt Reduction Act would result in HIGHER deficits and also result in an economic recession during President Clinton's term. Obviously, with hindsight they were completely wrong. Republicans don't seem to be very good at math, or economics.

I've bookmarked that site. Thanks!
