AP chief: Bush turned military into propaganda machine

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Associated Press chief executive Tom Curley says the Bush administration turned the U.S. military into a global propaganda machine.

In a speech to journalists at the University of Kansas today, Curley said news organizations must demand that the Pentagon negotiate new rules for covering conflicts.

He said both civilian officials and military leaders have cracked down on independent reporting from the battlefield, with the goal of suppressing news that’s unflattering.

3. Hell Will Freeze Over Before The Corporate Media Admits Their Complicity
Right now almost every network has abandonded Baghdad and Iraq. It's not "sexy" or economical anymore. It doesn't draw ratings. It's no fun. Time to find a dead blonde somewhere.

The military was just one of several paid pundit programs the booosh regime operated right under the noses of the major media organizations. The media ate it up as it provided "access" and hours of talking heads. They knew that playing nice with the boooshies meant more deregulation, access and ratings. It's a teet they still are connected to.

When this sad episode is written, the corporate media will get an F in being used and as serving as enablers in war crimes and the destruction of this country.

Cheers...
