Greenpeace DC coal plant action 3/2/09
It's time to take a stand on global warming. We can't wait any longer for Congress to take action - we must take action ourselves.

On March 2nd, thousands of people from all over the country will converge on the coal-fired Capitol Power Plant in Washington D.C. for the largest mass civil disobedience against global warming in U.S. history. It will be the loudest call for a clean energy revolution ever made.

But what if you can't make it to D.C. that day?

Don't worry, you can still be part of the action by hosting or attending a house party in your community on February 12th in support of this historic event.

Together with thousands of people young and old from all over the country, you'll be creating personalized "pinwheels" -- symbols of both clean power and the many people behind this movement. These pinwheels will then be used to represent those who couldn't make it to D.C. on March 2nd. At the house parties, you'll also be joining an exclusive conference call with Mike Clark, interim executive director of Greenpeace USA, and Matt Leonard, Capitol Climate Action coordinator, to get the inside scoop on the action itself and to find out how you can get more people from your community involved on this momentous day of action.

It's our moment. Be a part of history and sign up today to host or attend a house party in your neighborhood on February 12th.

The Capitol Power Plant, which is located just blocks from Capitol Hill, supplies Congress with dirty energy and symbolizes the stranglehold coal has over our government and our future. With a new administration and an emboldened Congress taking over in Washington, we have a real chance to kick-start the Energy evolution. And it starts with ending our reliance on coal.

Sincerely,

Ben Kroetz
Greenpeace Online Organizer

1. Good luck, Obama is in the pocket of coal.
Or maybe he was lying when he ranted on and on about clean coal in all those commercials they've got him in.

2. I toured that plant in the 1950's when my father was one of the guys who ran it
My father worked at that plant until the day they retired him because of a physical disability (Parkinson's) a couple of years early. One third of the day, day after day, year after year he was in charge of the actual operating of the plant. In truth it didn't take all that many guys to run it. The flyash from that plant ate through the paint of every car my father owned between about 1946 and 1980. It was a filthy and noisy place with massive machinery and the ever present smell of ozone; that's all I remember about it. He hated it; I sure remember that.
