Watching the debate on the Senate floor - it is such a waste of time.
The repugs aren't going to change their minds - there's nothing in there to change ;)

And the Dems understand what needs to be done.

Nothing is going to change. Nothing is being said that hasn't been said before.
I say we have 3 repug votes, take it and run with it.

They should all go home and enjoy the weekend.

1. the repigs just want those tax cuts made permanent for the rich.
Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 02:07 PM by bdamomma
no votes today anyway. The repigs just suck and out of tune on everything.

Tom Udall on the floor and just said the problems we inherited, they should keep on saying that to get through those thickheads of the repigs.

2. I don't think Lieberman can vote on Saturdays
And every vote is critical right now. That's why Kennedy is coming back for the vote.

3. And Reid can't vote on Sunday. So - Monday it is.
In the meantime - these Senators are wasting their time.

God Bless Teddy!

8. Right, now the Republicans have more time to lie and obfuscate
For instance, I wonder about the context of the 1/08 Larry Summers quote that Sessions just showed on his chart.

9. I definitely feel that was so out of context. Sessions is of the belief that the old tactics work.
What he is blind to is that, THEY DON'T. Such an Ass-Hat.

Senate plans stimulus vote Tuesday

Posted by David Lightman Posted By David Lightman – 2 hrs 2 mins ago

The Senate plans to take a final vote on its $827 billion economic stimulus package at noon Tuesday, as angry Republicans joined pleased Democrats in extended debate on the plan. Senators will vote on cutting off that debate Monday evening. Sixty votes are needed, and all 56 Democrats are expected to be joined by two independents and Republican Sens. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Susan Collins of Maine, who helped draft the compromise Friday.

Edited on Sat Feb-07-09 02:13 PM by bdamomma
jerks they are. Ugh, Jeff Sessions. The repigs keep on talking about the money how about how much money bush pissed off. What hypocrites and very short memories.

the repigs are so scared that Obama's plan will work, that is the problem. I wish the repigs would just stand out of the way, they have caused to much damage to the country and the people.

11. Dems and Obama need to get behind Nancy Pelosi. She had it
right originally. The House Repubs dan't fillibuster. Let the Senate Repubs fillibuster. Spector, Collins and Snowe are voting with the Dems--they have serious issues in their states. They are not going to vote with the Repubs.

the nation's top economist giving their opinions on the stimulus and then allowing the senate to vote on it.

14. But how does that help very wealthy people get tax cuts and permit
them to offshore American jobs? After all, that's what Congress is for, it appears.

15. You read my mind.
That's exactly what I have been thinking today.

Last nite Rachel said what we have all been thinking - these Repukes wouldn't even pass ECON101.

They should have economists from both sides of the aisle speaking to Congress.

Listening to Grassley - he sounds like he wants this bill to pass - are you getting that from him?
He is offering an amendment and thinks the bill needs to go even further.

am I going crazy - or is he really saying that?

on edit - As he kept talking I realized that I was going crazy :P

19. Of course they won't...
Conservatives are social and fiscal Darwinists, they do not care about those whose very survival is in jeopardy, since they know that tax cuts and increased defense spending will force the government to drastically slash or even better, eliminate "entitlement" programs, which is their "Holy Grail" and ultimate goal. Having that HUGE federal deficit hanging over the US like the sword of Damocles, helps, rather that hurts their cause, which is why it was ignored and permitted to be greatly increased during the past 8 years.

They are also obviously willing to sacrifice even some, or if necessary, many of their unwitting fellow "middle-class" conservatives, who might also eventually lose their jobs (if they haven't already) and may end up suffering the same homeless, starving, and destitute fate. If a conservative victim of the recession would dare to apply for temporary federal/state assistance to bridge the employment gap, he or she is anti-American, and a traitor to core conservative values.

20. It's like a very sick play being put on for the people to watch
no one is listening to each other and I am sure every person there is bored stiff at what any of them have to say.

All they are doing is posturing for votes from their base.
