Depression: not financial, but emotional. Are you a happy person now feeling depressed?

This isn't a question for those with clinical depression. I know about that all too well from first hand experience with several people who suffer from it.

This is for those of you who always thought of yourself as a happy person.

The mood of the country is very dismal. Has it affected you? Are you now feeling more down than normal?

1. I've been in a paralyzing depression for about 6 weeks

More personal stuff related, but the mood of the country isn't helping much. Ugh.

Listening to Senator Boxer helps my mood a lot. Just being light about the question. Depression is truly no joking matter, but, you gotta find your perks where and when you can.

10. I have suffered from clinical depression in the past

And I'm very depressed now but there is a different tenor to it. This is clearly situational and connected to the current state of affairs. I feel like the whole world is sick. The small sliver of good to be found in this whole thing is that I know I'm not alone and people are incredibly supportive, emotionally if not financially.

Yes, the Rethugs trashed the country, but at least we now have a shred of hope.

ETA: I was more depressed when Bush stole the 2000 election. The longest, worst depression of my life was after Bush stole Ohio.

12. You've hit on a flaw in the English language: we use the same wording,

depressed, depressing to describe two different states. Someone can be anxious, hopeless, pessimistic, upset, etc over a situation and we round up all those attitudes under the term depressed. Someone else can be unable to function regardless of the actual situation, and that person is clinically depressed.

13. I'm still a happy person but I'm not optimistic about long term prospects.

I'm glad I'm still able to do a few things I enjoy at a sort of advanced age. I'm happy that I'm financially able to not worry about a roof over my head and food on my family.

But I'm concerned that my kids, grandkids and especially my new great granddaughter may not be able to feel so secure when they reach my point in life.

14. Like A Rollercoaster

Since the evening of November 4th when the "sun" finally peeked through the ever-darkening clouds of the Bush administration. My wife and I may have already hit our economic rock bottom hopefully, since we live in MI, which one of the states that always suffers the most from Republican rule, whether it be from the state and/or federal government. We have lost a lot of our material possessions and savings, so all that is left that hasn't happened (yet) is homelessness and starvation, which under a McCain/Palin administration would have been inevitable sooner or later.

I am more optimistic than before, but I can say with certainty that I truly despise conservatives, and try to temper my bad moods with the rationalization that some of the happiest times in my life have occurred when I was poorer rather than wealthier. I am also old enough to have been alive during much of the heyday of my hometown of Detroit, with perhaps the exception of the summer of '67, and no one can take away my fond memories of those times.
