I wonder how many people ate the tainted dog food?

I remember we used to hear stories about poor people (mostly elderly) eating dog food because they could not afford food.
I wonder if that is still a problem since the media doesn't report that anymore.
If it is, I wonder if any got sick from the tainted food?

is what other food in this country has the tainted wheat gluten in it. It is a shame that they have to buy wheat from China when we grown enough right here. You are afraid to eat bread or cereal not knowing what they have put in it.

2. its used as "filler"

To thicken the gravy of the pet food and make it more palatable for pets. So if its in human food it would be in something like that. I really think its not going to be found in the human supply chain. Plus, if it is all reassuring, mostly small animals are getting sick. The larger ones who have sickened/died ate large quantities of it. Its possible that if it is in people food, most people are too large to be negatively effected.

3. You're asking if there are no more poor people since no stories in the papers?

There are tons of poor people who will eat anything edible. Plenty. The soup kitchens turn away so many each day.

There are no stories because the wealthy paper readers, tv watchers do not want to dirty their beautiful minds with those not so fortunate. This is a GOP world we are living in.

4. I was wondering that also. And if same source (wherever) got in human food supply.

I love my pets. I buy good dog/cat food, made out of human grade food (petfood). I am very upset when something happens to any of them. But I am more concerned about humans, our food supply.

5. awhile ago I was in the store

I was checking out and the old man in front of me looked like he was likely living on the street. He had 6 cans of cat food he was buying and I just knew it wasn't for a cat, it was for him.

This is a real worry and I know people don't like reading or hearing about humans eating dog and cat food, but a hungry human will eat anything!

6. How widespread is the consumption of dog and cat food by poor people?

I mean, really? Is it that widespread a habit, or do they tend to spend what little money they have on less expensive people food, like pasta or beans?

I recall hearing somewhere that dog and cat food is actually quite expensive compared to cheaper food that is actually meant for human consumption.

7. I had the same thoughts

since this dog food scare I've been feeding my dog human food and find that it is actually cheaper and goes further than actual dog food. I can't see why any poor person would choose the more expensive dog food when they can find human food that is less expensive.
