at Wikipedia, since I thought I'd read about him having been a drunk. And, yeah, my recollection was correct.

I also learned that he'd been raised Roman Catholic and his mother committed suicide when he was thirteen years old.

He converted to Mormonism.

That's all I need to know about him to know exactly how damaged he is and why he behaves the way he does. A high school graduate, no college, nothing after high school, and he gets to challenge all these educated people. How powerful does he feel when he gets to do that?

He's an empty shell. I don't see a good ending for him. His self-worth is too entwined with what others think of him, and when his rightwingnut buddies turn on him - they will - he'll be lost.

In the meantime, he's easy to avoid.
