Did anyone catch SC Gov. Mark Sandford(R) on CNN today?
I was about half asleep, but basically he was against bailouts/stimulus. He thinks we should just let nature take it's course and let everything fail. Said it would be "painful", but better to get it over with all at once. Compared the US to Japan, etc.

I wish the interviewer (in this case, John King) would question these people when they make statements like this. Why don't they just ask some basic questions, like, "Gov., you're a multi-millionaire. How painful will your plan be for you and your family?" or "Gov., you're a practicing Christian. Are you prepared to follow the Biblical teaching that admonishes us to sell everything and give it to the poor? If not, why not?"

I have a feeling that if those questions were asked of every conservative talking head on tv, there would be lots fewer of them willing to be interviewed.

I'm going to e-mail John King and suggest he do a little research into the net worth of these people, then ask these questions. Of course, I won't get a response, but it'll make me feel better.

1. Those are good questions. I love it when the same wealthy people
who have job security and profited off the system that fucked us over suddenly announce that we should let everyone "fail". Sanford's "fail" might be some loss in stock value that he'll barely notice. Our "fail" means possible destitution.

3. Thanks!. I hate to wake up angry, but this fool is my governer,
and every time I see him or Lindsay Graham or Jim Demint spouting their conservative "values" and advice, I just want to :puke: ! I call them the "unholy trinity" (for obivious reasons).

2. Yep, that's the ticket!
Generally speaking the more affluent republicans could weather this storm just fine. Unfortunately the less affluent ones, who have been voting against their interests for decades because the rich assholes like Sanford have brainwashed them with right wing wedge issues can't.

Gee, it almost makes one consider going Sanford's route. But nah, we aren't as callous as the other side. Besides, if the last eight years haven't convinced the less affluent RW voters just how fucked they have been at the hands of their cynical masters, nothing will.

4. SC, reddest of the red states, where unemployment is at 9.6% and
where the majority will continue to vote against their own self interests. Talk about living in an alternative universe!

5. Start with Wall Street.
Lots of our problems go straight through there. Oh. And a bunch of turds who voted for Connecticut's governor also just happen to commute to their sinecures there.

6. We can just let the social upheaval and riots burn out after we do nothing?
I'd say he has that "let them eat cake" thing down.

7. Mark Hoover-Sanford is an idiot.
He would be taking the state into a depression even if the overall economy was good.
People have voted against their interests. However, woe to him when they finally get
pinched real hard. People in this state tend to react very strongly, ie Fort Sumter.

11. Yeah, I loved his stance on not taking federal money to pay for
unemployment. That was soooo popular. They are planning to close 5 schools in Charleston/Charleston County, and the only daycare center for special needs children is also hanging by a thread.
In the meantime, there were 6 murders in the area in Jan, innumerable robberies, and if that's not enough, they think there may be a serial arsonist loose in Charleston.
I can hardly wait to see what's going to happen when the economy gets worse.
Think I'll move back to the Va. mountains and hole up in one of those big caves near my hometown.

The Repubs from Hoover's term have apparently been reborn.
