I've been a voting member for over 16 years, and my picks rarely come out on top.

However, beyond the awards show, NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) does do some pretty good work, for example, through the Grammy Foundation, funding music programs in schools ("Grammy In The Schools" - http://www.grammyintheschools.com) and MusiCares. To quote from the web site:
It is the mission of MusiCares to ensure that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical or personal crisis. Its primary purpose is to focus the attention and resources of the music industry on human services issues that directly impact the health and welfare of music people. On edit: I've known a couple musicians that received addiction treatment and their lives back on track thanks to MusiCares.

...what they call the "entry list," don't make it to nomination. For example, my band was on the entry list this year, but we didn't get nominated. Which is good, because, I'm certain the earth would have spun off its axis and plunged into the sun if we had been nominated for something.

The rules for voting: After the "General Field" (Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best New Artist, etc) we may only vote in up to 8 other Fields out of many. We may pick any Fields we like and vote in any or all Categories within those Fields.

Also, I wasn't really into this Kings of Leon album. I really prefer their first two that have much more of a punk feel to it. Gritty two-guitar rock and roll.

22. I'll have to disagree with you

I like Britney and think she deserved the Grammy...especially considering who she was nominated against. I think the fact that Beyonce has won 10 (yes, 10!!) Grammys has done the most damage to the Grammys reputation. Justin Timberlake being nominated twice for Best Album also doesn't do much for their credibility.

I don't agree with the Grammys much but I still watch. I'm an award show fan so I watch even if I disagree with the nominees or, in the case of the Oscars, haven't seen any of the nominees.

45. Britney is just one of many artists not worthy of recognition

When you compare the Grammys to the Oscars it's no comparison at all. There is a lot of great music out there by artists that will never get airplay that will never get best album nomination. I love watching the Oscars because even if a lot of the picks are political you'll still see some powerful films. That can barely be said for the Grammys.

I heard that song "Watching Scotty Grow" as a child, and I misheard "B-R-L-F-Q spells mom and dad" as "FLQ, that's Mum and Dad!". Now, some of my family are Canadian, and I'd heard relatives talking about "the FLQ", the Front for the Liberation of Quebec, who had kidnapped someone from the government. I thought this was what the line was about, and couldn't fit it in with the rest of the song. Ah, now it's finally sorted out for me! Oh, and whatever the words, it's a crap song.

is just how many on that list have enjoyed a much longer productive life than "little green apples."

I could sing the chorus of "apples;" I remember it. I wouldn't listen to it on purpose, though. Yet I have 60% of the list you gave on my CD rack or playlist right now, and could sing some of another 20% without much trouble.
