If we count January, although he was only the President up to the 20th, he lost over 2 million jobs just in the last 4 months. I haven't seen any official numbers but this would have to be the worst job creation in a long, long time. At least since Herbert Hoover, would be my guess?

But, it also proves that the cornerstone of Republican ideology is a fraud. They have preached since Reagan that taxcuts will generate more jobs and will bring in more money to the Treasury than anything else we can do. Well, that has been proven to be a fraudulent claim. We went into debt by more than $5 trillion just in the last eight years. We doubled the existing debt that took over 200 years. And the jobs? We would have to be insane to try it again.

7. A lot of the "service jobs" were done by students including

high school students back before Nixon. Kids saved money for college or for a car working in restaurants, retail stores, etc. A lot of the work was done by part-timers.

If you think about it, at times when most people are employed, the heavy shopping hours are when school is out, so the students' schedules allowed them to work after school and on weekends.

I believe that the true unemployment rates have been at least twice what the statistics show for quite some time.

The unemployment rates are especially unrealistically lower than they actually are at this time because baby boomers forced out of their jobs by the bad economy combined with rampant age discrimination are "retiring early" in huge numbers. That's just a euphemism for getting laid off due to discrimination and then not getting hired ever again.

And these are the same hardworking people who worked after school, on weekends and summers while going to high school and college. In a way I'm one of these people. I am tired, but if I had a good job offer, I would still work. At my age, a good job offer is virtually impossible to get. You only get jobs that demand extremely long hours and pay very little.
