'Resistance & Recovery': Sit-Down Strikers and Laid-Off Workers Call for New Ways to Confront the Economic Crisis

DETROIT, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ --

What: A press conference and "resistance and recovery" rally

green jobs.

Who: Some of the 650 sit-down strikers who occupied the Republic
Windows and Doors Co. in Chicago last December to win back
pay, severance, and health benefits when the plant suddenly
closed AND presidents of two Detroit-area United Steelworkers
local unions at U.S. Steel, Great Lakes Division, where 1,800
workers are on layoff.

Why: To build support for new initiatives including the Employee
Free Choice Act, now before Congress, which would streamline
the way in which workers can choose union representation.

When,

Detroit AFL-CIO, 600 W. Lafayette, Detroit, 2nd floor.

February 9, 2009 at IBEW Local 58 Hall, Porter St. between

Reeves, Bill Meyer, and others.

1. Resistance is exactly what they don't want.
Right away it's all about the "nation of laws" and orderly society. THey are shit scared of the uprising that will take place in this country if this shitty economy doesn't stop.

2. I don't agree. If people DON'T react--protest, strike, hold sit-downs, speak out--
just what do you think our Corporate Overlords will conclude? "Fooled 'em again," is what.

Personally, I think our NUMBER ONE PRIORITY should be transparent vote counting--removal of all corporate-controlled 'TRADE SECRET' code from our voting system. I think it's plausible--it is certainly possible, with 'TRADE SECRET' code--that half the members of Congress weren't really elected. That's why they are such lousy friggin representatives of the American people.

But I can understand the need to put your body on the line and raise consciousness and educate people--and spark some fear in the hearts of these unelected, or not-verifiably elected, Congress critters and their corporate masters. Let them know we're not stupid sheep. Maybe get some money kicked back into the Jobs bill for education. Meanwhile, we sharpen our pitchforks for the voting machines. Nothing scares them more than the prospect of transparent vote counting.

Fear is good. The government should be afraid of the People. We are the sovereigns in this land--theoretically. They serve us--theoretically. They are accountable to us--theoretically. And if they don't fear our scrutiny of their actions, something's wrong. Well, something is wrong--and we all know it.

-----------

I just re-read your post, and I'm not sure what you mean. I reacted to it, as if you meant: Don't protest. Is that what you meant?
