Is anyone familiar with the XM radio program Left Jab?
I listened to it on AAR today and really liked it. I think it's been on another XM channel, but it's new to AAR on the weekends. I was impressed. Does anyone else listen to the show regularly, and if so, is it consistently pretty good?

1. I dunno
I caught it once on XM Public Radio late at night. I enjoyed it that night - they had a Bill Clinton impersonator who called in - very funny.

2. It seems to be a good mix of humor and seriousness....
I hope it does well on the AAR lineup.

3. I don't get XM
Edited on Sun Mar-25-07 06:50 PM by Ignacio Upton
A little off topic, but still relevant...what do you think of the proposed merger between XM and Sirius? Normally I hate monopolies, but I don't like the fact that you can get MLB coverage on one company's system, and only get the NFL or NBA on another. We don't have that proprietary dilemma with terrestrial radio, so having such a merger will eliminate this problem. Also, satellite radio will still compete with terrestrial radio, as well as streaming online radio (although, if the RIAA has its way with the ridiculous royalty rates that it's lobbying the copyright board to pass, then internet radio might shrivel up and become yet another playground for Clear Channel et al.)

4. I too hate monopolies, but....
I'm with you. I have XM, but there's definitely some Sirius programming I'd like to get. I just hope that if they do merge, they'll create 2 Liberal radio channels.

5. I feel like the choice will be between rates and choice
On one hand, an XM-Sirius monopoly may lead to artificially higher monthly rates, as they won't have the competitive incentive to lower them. However, the private, proprietary nature of satellite radio makes it so that our choice is limited if there are separate companies. Since terrestrial radio is controlled by the FCC, this problem doesn't exist with regards to "signing deals" with sports leagues and celebrities. However, I don't want the FCC to step in to regulate satellite radio, because the puritan police will make just make it into terrestrial radio 2.0

7. They want to merge so they can combine the bandwidth
of the two systems and eventually add backseat video... That seems to be the primary end game as far as I can tell. It's a bad deal for "radio" consumers.
