Marijuana May Raise Testicular Cancer Risk
Marijuana use may increase the risk of developing testicular cancer, in particular a more aggressive form of the disease, according to a U.S. study published on Monday.

The study of 369 Seattle-area men ages 18 to 44 with testicular cancer and 979 men in the same age bracket without the disease found that current marijuana users were 70 percent more likely to develop it compared to nonusers.

The risk appeared to be highest among men who had reported smoking marijuana for at least 10 years, used it more than once a week or started using it before age 18, the researchers wrote in the journal Cancer.

Stephen Schwartz of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, one of the researchers, said the study was the first to explore marijuana's possible association with testicular cancer.

"This is the first study to look at this question, and by itself is not definitive. And there's a lot more research that would have to be done in order to be more confident that marijuana use really is important in a man's risk of developing testicular cancer," Schwartz said in a telephone interview.

39. Yeah we will. We'll also tell you that there are scientific studies
that claim that there is no such thing as Global Warming.

The difference between what you would call "tokers" and straight people is that tokers just don't give a flying fuck anymore. We've been lied to so many times we've given up on getting any kind of honesty from the government, the scientific community and the "straights". To us you are all full of shit.

Let's see what kind of wonderful things have the straights said about us over the years.

Pot makes you a paranoid freak. Lie.
Pot is addicting. Lie
Pot will make you a sexual deviant. Lie.
Pot is a "gateway" drug. Lie. (Unless it's the gateway to Twinkies.)
Pot will make you think you can fly, and you will jump off a building. (one of my all time favorites) Lie.
Pot causes testicular cancer. Lie.

I know I left out a lot but I'm too stoned to care. So take your science schmience and stick it up your hineyence.

;) Did they CONTROL for how much Marijuana and the amount of THC absorbed within these men? Did they control for cigarette smoking that would be a clear concomitant variable? The FINDINGS were polling data and did not have any other controls for contributing variables?

This study does not appear sound, on face value alone (small sample size), much less for lack of controls.

45. Sounds like someone's trying to link pot with cancer
Of course, any study of marijuana's BENEFITS dies an early death.

And a study of less than 400 men in the same geographical area proves NOTHING.

In fact, it only raises more questions - like were they all exposed to some toxic chemical in the Seattle air? Maybe they all came from the same area where a factory was spewing some carcinogen. Or there was something in the water or food supply.

Singling out ONE common factor such as marijuana and making a bold announcement to the world suggests they were LOOKING for such a link.

On the other hand I don't care if people smoke pot as long as they don't do it around me or while operating machinery or motor vehicles around me -more or less the same rules I have about cigarette smoke.

I can guarantee that if you drive anywhere in America you are going to on the road with a lot of folks who are "toking" as they are driving.

64. Of all the recent lab reports about the potential harm or help of marijuana
this is what made it onto NPR.

It was a complete non-story: ONE form of testicular cancer, small sample population, a doctor stating that this is the first find of this kind and corroborrating tests would have to be run.

The only aspect of this as a "story" is that it gives the reptiles potential ammunition. They are REALLY hoping pot "causes cancer".
