2. surprisingly
I was impressed with Katie Couric in this interview. I guess because of her being an achor now, You kind of forget that she was a pretty good interviewer back in the day at Today.

5. She knows first hand what the Edwards are facing
I thought she did a good job of not showing the depth of emotion that this situation must bring her. She was compassionate, but also professional.

Edited on Sun Mar-25-07 07:13 PM by laureloak
Couric totally lacks optimism. I wish Couric had had the courage to talk to Elizabeth rather than John.

4. Couric is really annoying me
Yer gonna die, yer gonna DIE, can she just be done with banging nails into her coffin? For once, I started looking forward to a commercial break.

10. I thought so too..nothing good interviewing
about repeating the same thing over and over from a dozen different angles. kouric tried to bring them down but John and Elizabeth handled it graciously and with aplomb.

27. I admire the Edwards for their restraint.
I sooooo much wanted to throw back at Katie Kup-Kake a reminder that she continued to work while Jay, her husband was terminal with colon cancer. She also had small children at home.

28. I was leaning towards Edwards
Edited on Sun Mar-25-07 08:03 PM by zidzi
before this sad news came out and after seeing him under the gun I have all the more respect and admiration for him and Elizabeth. I don't know if they have a chance but I'm thinking they're more my kind of candidate.

Since my man Gore is going to be changing the Planet through other avenues. And, we have Dean sparkling in the DNC Chair.

36. Edwards is conducting the
perfect marathon......A slow steady forward pace with acceleration at rhythmic intervals. The sign of a winner. Plus, he already has completed a Presidential Campaign on his resume. Many Plus Points.

...and to think I used to like Katie Couric.

John and Elizabeth handled the questions with grace.

16. I said the same thing on another thread....
Katie seemed too concerned they weren't putting family first, and her kids were about the same age when her husband died, so I found that a tad hypocritical to warrant a finger wag at the Edwards'.

17. I disagree
I think though she may know what they are going through, many in the audience do not. So in my opinion, she wasnt wagging her finger at them, but asking a question that an average American would ask.

Btw, you guys are not the average American i am talking about, because you follow this case much more closely.

Edited on Sun Mar-25-07 07:31 PM by gatorboy
I've lost several close members of family to cancer. You don't think this is something the average Amercian can relate to?

22. I didnt say
Average family. What i was referring to, is Im sure there are plenty of people who want an answer to that question. Many people do not completely understand cancer, nor do they understand her specific situation. Therefore, just because Katie Couric and other people have had family members with Cancer, and may understand, there are many others who are lucky enough not to.

19. I don't know, but you bring up an interesting point
how many people have the option of leaving their job when a family member is seriously ill? Oh, sure there's family leave, but how many people can afford to take 12 weeks of unpaid leave?

We have had presidents that went through horrible personal experiences while in office. Lincoln and Kennedy both lost childre;, Wilson's first wife died; FDR's and Clinton's mothers died. And, Betty Ford had cancer and I don't recall anyone worrying about how Gerry was dealing with being president while that was going on.

24. Nancy Reagan had cancer, too.
Reagan himself had cancer, though Nancy was in denial. After the operation on his colon, she said he "doesn't have cancer." In her mind, since the cancer had been removed, he no longer HAS cancer.

Edited on Sun Mar-25-07 07:12 PM by higher class
aid them. She was pretty much typical corporate tv, but with a good voice modulation.

The bright side, is that she wasn't Chris Matthews of Tim Russert or Nora or Andrea - and she said enough pointed things to allow both John and Elizabeth to answer perfectly.

They are amazing. Their thinking is so clear and mature.

If this doesn't die down in about two days - if the right wing continues to attack - we must counter attack for them no matter who our favorite candidate is at this point.

I thought their voices and words were the most inspiring I've heard in a long time.

Classic bravery and generous thinking.

29. Katie Couric was HORRID. She likes to beat a dead horse.
Who gives Katies these scripts???? She does remind me of Cruella De Vil.

I wanted to reach right through the television and punch her one.

35. I think the Edwards went on TV to answer just those kind of questions.
Not to do a puff piece or a weeper, but to address those sorts of questions and the possible criticisms straight on.

It may not have been the kind of interview I would have liked to have seen, but they did well.

37. John Edwards is a savvy politician
They agreed to the interview with Couric, actually chose the interview. The questions were gone over before airing. This wasn't a press conference where unexpected questions were asked.
