MICHAEL PHELPS IS IN HOT WATER…
Stop the presses -- an athlete has been caught smoking pot!! This is news?!? I say, he’s just a kid!! We’ve all made mistakes. Leave Michael Phelps alone!!! (After you listen to this parody and send it to everyone you know!!)
See “Because I Got High: The Ballad of Michael Phelps,” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uK09SS0zYHg

1. This was pot, not speed. I'd think it would slow him down.
Besides the potus smoked quite a bit of pot in his high school days. It's all there in his autobiography. Legalize the stuff already and tax the crap out of it.

5. Yeah this is a non-story to me.
Now if someone would've videoed some of the sex parties at the Olympics I'd say that would be newsworthy. Rather than painting one person as immoral (his sponsors certainly must have to drop him like a hot potato) the entire event would be seen in a whole new light. That's not something the Olympic gods would take kindly to. To me that merits a headline or two.

9. I'm sorry but I disagree.
I almost called my local sports talk jock about this the other day.

He's a big time right winger constantly interjecting his politics into sports. So last thursday he's throwing a fit over 'the media hounding Michael Phelps and ruining his career'. It was the usual two faced hypocritical bullshit. "Hey it's Michael Phelps," "It's only pot."

It's always the same shit. When its a friend or a relative, when its someone you know or a star athlete then it's no big deal, 'it's only pot'. When it's someone you don't know and don't give a damn about then it's against the law and tough cheese for him.

As long as it's against the law then hang Michael Phelps the same as any regular Joe Blow. And if people don't like it then change the fucking law.

10. The problem here is...
...the only "evidence" they have is a picture. That's usually not enough in marijuana cases. How doe we know what was in the bong. There is usually pocession involved.

12. Whether there's a case against him or not is one thing.
That's not the point.

I'm just sick of society's duality when it comes to the gravity of Marijuana laws. We're all suppose to be equal under the law. If it's no big deal in Michael Phelps case then it should be no big deal period, no matter who's involved. But somehow even the anti drug crowd can always blow off an offense if they want to. The whole 'blame the media' for Phelps troubles angle just pissed me off. It's not the media that's the problem. It's the ridiculous law that's the problem.

23. Well, there is also his admission...
and apology. We know it was pot because he admitted it. A public admission could probably be considered to be evidence.

The only mistake I see is not being smart enough to know who his "friends" are who would photograph him and sell the photo.
