Republicans Play Politics With Stimulus Package – GOP Backs Spending To Rebuild Iraq But Blocks Spending To Build America

<snip>Republicans in Congress supported the Bush Administration policy of building roads and schools in Iraq but now decline to support a stimulus bill to build schools and roads in the United States. They also wanted to make sure that the TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program – the Banker’s Bailout) money went to the banks.

The Republicans have called for capital gains tax cuts despite the fact that we are in a long recession and there were no capital gains. The new stimulus package includes hundreds of billions of dollars in tax cuts and the Republicans still don’t like it. Perhaps the wrong people are getting tax cuts?

The Republicans support massive capital outlays for building projects in Iraq but don’t want stimulus spending here, even while Americans are losing their jobs. All of a sudden the GOP has got “religion”. They don’t like government spending, even on roads and schools here. Where were they when President Bush proposed the bank bailouts?
