Why doesn't the media check their facts?
It really is not that hard.

Last night Candy Crowley of CNN stated that "first time" home buyers will get the $15,000 tax credit for the purchase of a home.

It is not "first time" home buyers. It is any home buyer for one year following the signing into law.

4. How so?
People who have been saving to buy a home will benefit from this in some way, no matter the price of the home.

2. Because the media are STUPID. They show it more and more every time they open their mouth.
and having Obama as president is just making it clearer and clearer, as the intellectual gap between he and they is very, very wide.

5. I submit they're just unbelievably lazy. How much effort would
it take to check facts? Google isn't that hard to use.

17. It would take actual paid employees to do it.
They're saving money by not checking.

3. So far I only briefly saw one question and it was slanted.
My reaction: The press is still doing Bushco's bidding.

6. Why should they? No one (worth speaking of) holds them accountable.

Who's complaining? A bunch of bloggers? Ooooooooh! Scaaaaaary! :sarcasm:

When their paycheck starts to depend on it, THEN you'll see some fact checking. Right now, the people who sign those paychecks don't mind at all that the public is being misinformed.

7. Yeah, she blew it
The provision isn't unrestricted. It is limited to "primary residence." I am sure that is a restriction to make sure speculators don't get the benefit and to keep people from "gaming" the system.

Actually I thought CNN was pretty fair in their coverage last night. Gergen was effusive in his praise for the President's performance. The in studio commentators were very positive. Of course, their GOP pricks--Castellanos and Rollins were obviously distressed with both how well Obama did and with the praise he was getting from the others.

8. It is not "first time" home buyers. It is any home buyer.
"Last night Candy Crowley of CNN stated that "first time" home buyers will get the $15,000 tax credit for the purchase of a home."

Today Tennessee Gal of DU stated that "It is not "first time" home buyers."

Who is right here? Are first time home buyers getting the credit or not?

I guess we'll have to wait for the "facts"

10. they do not make money informing you or the public.
they make money keeping 'the masses' in the dark and complacent and ready to buy whatever is shoveled through. who owns the stations and networks, why are things structured this way, then ask 'Qui bono?'

13. Because they aren't interested in facts, they are interested in ratings.
Remember that so-called "summer of the sharks" a few years back? There was actually LESS shark attacks that year compared to the year before, but the MSM was making it out to be a shark attack epidemic.

16. AND the home needs to be valued at a minimum of $150,000 to qualify...
So anyone with half a brain and some financial sense still left about them will not qualify.

19. No. That's wrong. The tax credit is 10% of the purchase price up to
a maximum of $15,000.

Therefore, if you buy a house over $150,000, you will have maxed out the amount of the tax credit.

20. Ah HAH!
Thank you for pointing this out.

I think that this needs a bit more coverage, because the information that I recieved was pulled off a thread right here at DU last night.

Thanks for the correction!
