can someone answer this, re Condoms in Stimulus bill?
I got home from work last night; Hunny told me the President spoke on TV, and that condoms were included in the stimulus bill?? Is that true? Where would he have gotten that idea from? (btw, we don't have cable. Only ABC, NBC, CBS. Don't know which program he was watching. I don't get home till late at night)
.
.
.
.

Sad to say, hunny is not a fan of Obama (and I don't know what to do with that... does it mean something negative on a spiritual level, not being able to tell dark from light?? But I digress.....)

Anyway, at least it didn't devolve into an argument, and I did name some Very Good Things the President has done already, which he did admit he liked....

2. Not being a fan of Obama
means something negative on a spiritual level?

Not able to tell dark from light?

14. not being able to recognize hyperbole
on your part,

means something negative about me?

colorful linguistic embellishment is just my personal communication style.

Kind of like yours is jumping into threads solely to add insulting non sequiturs.

You ---> :dunce:

4. It was add'l medicaid coverage for family planning (not just 'condoms') and
has since been removed due to griping by rethugs.

http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/blog/2009/01/27/stimulus-finalized-without-medicaid-family-planning-expansion

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/136756.php

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/issues-action/birth-control/medicaid-21017.htm

Planned Parenthood worked closely with our partners in Washington, DC, to ensure that the economic stimulus package included a commonsense measure — the Medicaid Family Planning State Option — that would have invested in health care and allowed states to expand health care access to more women.

Unfortunately, the Medicaid Family Planning State Option fell victim to misleading attacks and partisan politics and was cut from the stimulus package yesterday.

The Medicaid Family Planning State Option is a simple way to make health care affordable for millions of Americans. It would do two important things:

1. It would allow millions of women to obtain basic health care. It would extend safety-net health care coverage for millions of people, including many who are losing their jobs and health insurance in the economic downturn. Studies estimate that 2.3 million low-income women would receive coverage under this provision by 2014, and 500,000 women would be able to avoid unintended pregnancies.
2. In these difficult times, this provision would save states money. State budgets are being squeezed by the economic downturn, just as millions are losing their jobs and health insurance. The Medicaid Family Planning State Option not only would help states extend their coverage, it would generate savings for states and the federal government by expanding access to preventive care.

Please, take two minutes now to help us raise a public outcry.

Call the White House (202-456-1111). Let them know that during this tough economic time, expanding access to basic health care is more important than ever for women and families.

17. thanks babylonsister!
am I correct, I thought Obama took this out but made it clear he will be reintroducing these issues later? I tend to believe him; he's shown himself to be good on his word.

11. that's what it sounded like to me too..... seemed like a right wing kind of spin to put on it
I guess it's the right wing memes that M$M always grabs hold of......

I just didn't know what to say to him in answer to his greeting when I came home. He can sometimes be on the lookout for negatives about Obama, though.

I figured it had something to do with the Family Planning aid that was proposed, but I thought, it couldn't be as limited and stupid sounding as what he said sounded....

I mean, I know hunny doesn't listen to those extreme pukes (his fundy brother does, though.... but I'm not sure if the brother pours that shit on him when he goes there. He says no....)

So where does he get these Hannity-sounding lines? (ughhhh god, just typing that name makes me puke... uck!!) I don't know which "news" show he was watching. I would guess the "news" soundbites grab onto that kind of crap?

I guess I sound like I live in a cave, but this is why I don't watch tv news. Bad enough having to put up with stupid-ass ads when you watch CSI.....

6. What I don't understand is why, given all the bleating the right wing does over abortion
they made such a huge fucking deal about this. I thought they wanted to prevent abortions, right?

Oh, wait- they're against legal abortion AND legal contraception. I forgot.

9. Most of them don't care about abortion, it's a simple way to raise money from
a bunch of people who either do truly care about it (but are wrong on how to get rid if it) or who are against women having the right to control their own body.

For a party who claims to love supply and demand it amazes me when they they continuously state that if the supply of abortion is made harder to get the demand will somehow go away and no one will provide a supply. Lower the need (demand) and the supply dries up.
