This whole Phelps marijuana thing just brings hypocrisy so clearly into view.
So we have alcohol - legal, but potentially dangerous, addictive, deadly (both as in the effects on the body and in terms of the effects on others with drunk driving, etc). Ruins many young people's lives as they do the binge thing to fit in at a young age.

We have marijuana - illegal, and certainly potentially dangerous, but not strictly addictive. Probably not nearly overused to the degree of alcohol.

We have people who openly brag about drinking - athletes who get mighty tuned up after victories with alcohol.
We have an olympic athlete whose career is now significantly impacted.

With age comes wisdom, but also the ability to see how silly and random some of our "laws" are.

3. not a biggie - he is still making lots of money and this will go away
people will remember the gold metals - it is as Zeth said on SNL - some 'dick' who sold the picture instead of being happy to be with an olympic gold metalist -

7. We could start on the way to repairing this if we called it the correct name: CANNABIS
Using the drug warriors terminology concedes something that should not be conceded.
