(2/10/09) Rumors abound about the sudden resignation of Alaska Attorney General Talis Colberg. While much is speculation, some of the theories seem to have some credibility.
Colberg's initial appointment two years ago was a complete surprise as he came into state government from a small private practice with no political experience and ended up in a highly charged political environment.
The fallout from the Troopergate subpoena fiasco has taken its toll on a guy whom all would agree is highly ethical.
There are feelings that Colberg was forced to chart the Troopergate course he did because of political pressure to stall and obfuscate the investigation.
After all, when you factor in the dramatic reversal Colberg took after agreeing in writing to cooperate with Senator Kim Elton and then abruptly went back on his word; then the absolute drubbing the court gave him with his legal challenge, there seems to have been someone else pulling the strings.
But while Governor Palin in an interview today with the Anchorage Daily News said the reason for Colberg's departure was due to the "harsh political environment," created by legislators and the Troopergate investigation, one really has to wonder about his final goodbye email to his employees.

Good Morning:
It was an honor to serve with you. Effective immediately, Mr. Rick Svobodny is the acting Attorney General until otherwise directed by the Governor or her office.
Thank you.
Talis J. Colberg
Colberg's good bye couldn't have been more curt. He is leaving on his own free will but yet this is all he says after being their boss for two years?
Even former Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, who was unceremoniously fired by Palin, offered gracious thanks and good will to his former employees.
Look for Palin's next Attorney General to be a pit bull.
The way things are shaping up, she's going to need someone aggressive.
