The mood inside Harborside turned somber when Henrietta Hughes took the microphone and in a cracking voice pleaded for help.
"We need our own kitchen and our own bathroom," she said in tears. "Please. We need help."
Obama left the stage and walked toward her as he said there were a lot of people like her who needed help, and then told her to see his staff after the event.
Obama told the crowd, "You didn't send me to Washington to do nothing," and a rising chant of "Yes we can!" filled the center, harking back to his speeches on the campaign trail.

Whereupon the president commented: "Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that. Get any sleep?"
