5. Layoff announcement in about 2 weeks...
Aircraft industry is having a hard time, and my employer (Rockwell Collins) is having a second round of layoffs... I'm not as likely as others to be let go, but with only two years there I'm not in a position to relax, either.

10. Self-employed owner/operator.
Haven't turned a wheel since the first week of October.
Freight is scarce, and rates are less than they were twenty years ago. I cannot turn a profit at these rates, so my best option is to sit tight and hope things turn up in the spring.

But, I'm not holding my breath on the economy turning anytime soon. The stimulus bill with the money for construction will help with increasing freight volumes, but with consumer spending still in the toilet...

20. Other.
Grossly under-employed (15 hours a week) working for a very elderly man with health problmes. I could wake up any time and find out my boss has passed away and then even my paltry wage will go bye-bye.

Edited on Tue Feb-10-09 06:32 PM by Political Heretic
I complete my masters degree this spring. But I'm also working part time (in addition to my full time course load, and unpaid internship) - and I need that job to eat with and pay my bills while getting through school.

And I'm worried about it.

25. My job is fairly safe...
though as it's dependent on a state grant, it's hard to know for sure that it'll be renewed, though there's no indication it won't be.

My wife, though, is severely underemployed. Former computer programmer who hasn't had a job in IT for about 8 years, and being unemployed for about 7 - she's now an electrician's assistant, but the electrician she works for is constantly short of work.

28. I am in my second week of a brand new job.
I almost passed it by because the rate is the lowest I have ever been paid in my field. Now that I am there and see that every single person in my starting group is overqualified (except for one or two who are about right) I realize that if I hadn't taken this I'd be waiting a long time for another opportunity. Its a growing telecom company with lots of jobs. So hopefully I will be able to move up the ladder sometime.
