FUCK YOU, DIANNE FEINSTEIN!!! Feinstein trying to kill net neutrality via amendment to stimulus.
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 01:21 PM by backscatter712
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/02/11/feinstein_stimulus_amendment/

US Senator Dianne Feinstein hopes to update President Barack Obama's $838bn economic stimulus package so that American ISPs can deter child pornography, copyright infringement, and other unlawful activity by way of "reasonable network management."

Clearly, a lobbyist whispering in Feinstein's ear has taken Comcast's now famous euphemism even further into the realm of nonsense.

According to Public Knowledge, Feinstein's network management amendment did not find a home in the stimulus bill that landed on the Senate floor. But lobbyists speaking with the Washington DC-based internet watchdog said that California's senior Senator is now hoping to insert this language via conference committee - a House-Senate pow-wow were bill disputes are resolved.

"This is the most backdoor of all the backdoor ways of doing things," Public Knowledge's Art Brodsky told The Reg. "Conference committees are notorious for being the most opaque of all legislative processes."

This is what Dianne Feinstein and those who bought her want the Internet to look like:

EDIT: You know what to do...

in California politics, you are met with resistance from the entrenched Democratic Party. We need to change the leadership and activism of all the local chapters first. I know for a fact that it is like pushing a boulder uphill in my county. I don't know about yours.

The Republican wing of the Democratic Party (DLC) LOVES them some Feinstein. Art Torres is especially enamored with her. The good news is by the time she's up for re-election, she'll be 79 and HOPEFULLY will not run again.

For many years, you have to receive her approval to run for office in the state of California.

She not only acts like a Gatekeeper in her elected activities in the Senate, she keeps the progressives out of office, unless they run as Greens or Indies.

156. I'm from California and I just wrote her.
I pointed out that her plan will make internet access more expensive for those of us on limited incomes -- including kids from poorer families, the elderly, the disabled -- all the folks who need free to inexpensive internet services. Her plan is not a stimulus. It is yet another expense that is not needed at a time when families are worried about whether they can pay their mortgage, much less the cable and internet bills.

14. I think what wroberts389 meant was...
If net neutrality is shot down, and a tiered Internet is implemented, the same big corporations that have taken over TV, radio and newspapers will take over the Internet, and price everyone except big corporations out of being able to put up websites accessible to the world.

In other words, if Comcast can discriminate on traffic, by "say goodbye to DU," he means that DU won't be able to pay the thousands of dollars of extortion money demanded by Comcast, and Comcast users will not be able to surf to DU.

153. It is called political "free" speech
The Supreme Court has held that contributions to political candidates is a form of political speech that is guaranteed, not without some qualification, under the Constitution. Unfortunately they have also held that corporations and other non-human entities (created as legal fiction under our laws) have limited rights under the Constitution. I personally don't think that the founding fathers really intended for say AT&T to have the same speech rights as a poor mother in Alabama. But that is what we are stuck with. And so what happens is these non-legal things have the right to contribute to politicians as part of political speech.

In Chicago, from which I post, the definition of a good politician is once bought, they stay bought.

DiFi is a good politician. She is wholly owned, subsidized, controlled and operated by big money. she cares not one bit for us, California, or any combination there of.

she is a good soldier, she is obedient, and she will NOT respond to our calls, letters, e-mails or more. She, and our efforts are simply a waste of time.

34. Not to mention using parlimentary processes to sneak provisions in when nobody's looking.
She couldn't get this in during the standard Senate deliberations, so she's trying to shove it in while the bill's in conference committee.

Slimy. Absofuckinglutely slimy.

Legislating morality is not the role of government. Free speech doesn't mean that I must listen to it or that I must be influenced by it.

Rather, Feinstein ought to be working on strengthening the role of government regulation of ISP's and child pornography - (but that's a nation that doesn't have any juicy targets) - nor is there any role for US government intervention since it's international in scope.

Feinstein is just using the Rumsfeld strategy - attacking Iraq because it's got good targets.

The headlines show a deal being struck in the conference committee, so there's an official stimulus bill that's the same in both Houses, and it's getting the support of Snowe and Collins, which means it's most likely going on Obama's desk.

103. San Fracisco and north is solidly democratic....The valley
and south is Puke country...and further down with the exceptions of a few pockets, it is rabid puke country. A few months back Di Fi was up for a vote of no confidence, which scared her out of her prada's, but some of her close supporters pulled a fast one to keep that from happening and there was anger all round. She ended up apologizing. With a little nudging it could happen again. A vote of no confidence makes a semi lame duck out of a senator and that is an avenue we should pursue more often on Senators like DiFi.

Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 08:07 PM by cascadiance
Talk about two faced supporters she has...

I still think she WANTED Arnold to win that race. She KNEW that she was likely going to get in trouble with the conflict of interest that forced her to resign that one committee chairmanship, that probably had her do the one good thing she did last year (and that was start the amplifying the news of the firing of the U.S. Attorneys). I'm guessing that she wasn't doing it so much for the interest of the general public but for her own sorry ass.

She probably knew that the Republicans were coming after her if some of the California prosecutors were being replaced with more extreme entities, and knew the Republicans might have been more inclined to replace her than Democrats, which is probably why she "cut the deal" on getting Mukasey in later.

If we had a Democratic Governor though, the Dems might have been more inclined to have found a way to get her replaced, as Republicrat as she is, if they had the goods on her! Her co-chair endorsing an Arny win was probably a way of staving that off...

I hate to say it, but as much as I loved Barbara Boxer being my senator, I think I moved to a place with collectively two better senators now since we just put Merkeley in to replace Gordon Smith in Oregon... I LOVED seeing that Wyden was probably helpful in getting Panetta the position that Feinstein absolutely hated him getting over the CIA...

Wow I just got off the phone, and the bill didn't make the cut. The aide did inform me that Senator Feinstein would re-introduce the bill later. When I asked about how that is legal, and how monitoring and choosing our internet bandwidth and capabilities doesn't impede interstate commerce. He said that the Supreme Court have a very loose definition of interstate commerce, and then I followed up with the school zone gun ban that is being overturned. The government cant infringe on state actions and rights without violations of interstate commerce. All he said was we didn't see things the same. So I gave it to him big time. Now its time for the rest of the DU members to get on board.

During her nefarious career, she was a notorious gun-grabber, even while carrying a concealed handgun herself, she frequently pushed for nanny-state regulations like restrictions on rap lyrics or violent video games. Back in her San Francisco supervisor days when she was working with Harvey Milk, she was the conservative on the board.

She's always been a "Let them eat cake!" aristocratic bitch.

a woman liberal. I don't think we were privy to much of what went on in SF, except of course the headlines. And I admit to knowing only the major themes of the Milk era -- my bff lives in the city.

So, what I always thought was... okay, she's a woman, she seems liberal, you go girl.
But...what I've come to realize as I've lived out of the state for the last nine years is... whoa! she is a conservative, backpedaling wolf-in-sheep's clothing.

Whatever "creds" she touted, have vanished, as far as I'm concerned.

I always appreciate knowing more of the story.

163. A "moderate" (at best) Dem doing the republicans dirty work to control the Internet.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 04:09 PM by GreenTea
Diane Feinstein is doing the republicans dirty work with bullshit legislation's, the republican love and need a Democrat in name to get censorship on the Internet passed and then the republicans use it to get it going for their narrow benefit.

And once it occurs you know how the republicans and the corporations will find ways to keep democrats & progressives at a minimum, to faze out their voices.

This how it starts, slowly through legislation and then the republicans exploit it for their advantage.

131. I'm a CA Dem Voter Dianne - you BLEEP! after all this and other shit...
the FISA crap, two hundred other betrayals
I voted for you every bleeping time, but you aren't a DEM.

I swear I'll vote for a GD Repuke before I vote for or support
you again. YOU ARE SO bleeping OUT!

(help! someone talk me down! if I vote repuke.. I'll ..I'll..)

ranting aside there is nothing that can be done, she's
too popular in the state, i see no practical way to
legally remove her from office, and even if she were
arrested for corruption, and i know of no grounds for that,
the new senator would be just be appointed by Arnold (R).)

142. Since 2000
I haven't voted for either Boxer or Feinsteinn but the truth is politicians are like ticks and once they burrow their way in they have a job for life. We seriously need a constitutional amendment limiting every member of Congress to no more then two terms.

That would calm her down. Also, let's publish where her campaign money
comes from and a list of telecom lobbyists who 'visit' her office.

Citizens of California: Why do you keep re-electing her?

The Anti=People Party.

She may pretend to be and think she is a Democrat.

We're on to her.

She needs labeling for what she is.

She's a Joe.

And she must go.

No more Committees. No more Caucuses.

Let he ride out the rest of her term voting for the BM Party (Big Money) and than she's out of there.

Maybe she should resign now. Save her legacy.

157. I just got through to her Washington, DC office!
"I am extremely disturbed by Senator Feinstein's attacks on Net neutrality. Unfortunately she seems to be listening more to lobbyists for the corporate communication giants than she is her constituents.

Her husband is a war monger and she's ridden the coattails of Harvey Milk for far too long.

How much money does she need?"

It's time to break the corporate stranglehold on our country's economy and government. We must elect representatives that will listen and respond to our needs, not those of corporate lobbyists!:kick:End Corporate Personhood!

for debate instead of trying to back door it in.

This is a betrayal against the people's First Amendment freedom all for the sake of corporate supremacy.

Copyright infringement my ass, they want public riga mortise.
