I am so annoyed to see what these "shows" have become.
These four seem to be the only "news' oriented shows left on "prime time" schedules, and they seem to spare no expense in the investigative work necessary to put these "shows" together.
Somewhere in the creases of my addled brain, there remains a faint memory of times past, when these shows actually DID do investigative pieces on issues "of the day"...and week after week,I tune in for a second when they are on... only to find yet another hardhitting, deeply researched, magnificently filmed, staged and presented expose' of some model who was lured to her death 5 years ago ...or of some "day in the life of" (insert maximum security prison name here).... or Episode #267334 of "dumb 45 year old guys trying to have sex with 13 yr olds they met online"... or some latest "OUTRAGE" that has John Stossel eating his mustache wax.
It's apparent that the networks are shilling these shows and their "nightly news" shows as their community service requirement in order to keep the free airwaves.
and what do these shows "teach" the public?
1. if you are a cute girl,. and a strange guy approaches you at a mall, he's probably NOT a Hollywood agent..
2. if you are 45 and chatting online with 13 yr olds, instead of bringing condoms & booze to her house, you might want to bring a lawyer.
3. John Stossel needs to take a chill pill and a nap.. everything seems to "bug" him.
It's aggravating to know that they DO have investigative people on staff, and that they choose, week after week, to WASTE them on trivial nonsense, when there are so many important things they could be/should be presenting to us.
If you are a young' un and have never seen any of the documentaries that USED to be on tv ..in Prime time, you can check come of them out at this website..
"Harvest of Shame" aired on Thanksgiving 1960, and before that, many people never even thought about how their food got to their table. It was on regular ole TV... "CBS Reports".
CBS also had "CBS White Paper" shows on all kinds of timely subjects..
I'm sure that people went missing back then and scouts got lost, and there were prisons, but TV was considered to be too important to be focused on the banal or "local" stories.
Too bad they forgot.
