Poll question: True or False poll about the state of affairs in the USA--
At some point in the last 7 years, certainly since 2002, the USA effectively ceased to exist and we have been living under corporate anarchy instead.

3. Can you fill me in on the relevance of that date?
For people like me, who weren't paying attention to the news back then.

9. Oh. Thanks.
Yes, although my social life was in a whirlwind at that time, I DO remember that, and remember thinking something was terribly wrong. I heard the news, but I didn't really believe it. I kept thinking, "well, this can't be...this is America!".

I never liked W, and I knew he would be a crappy president, from the time he got appointed president.
I had NO IDEA how right-on my impressions would be!

5. I guess I'm the only person who is optimistic here
I believe that things aren't going to well now, but nowhere close to the US ceasing to exist and living under corporate anarchy.

7. LOL! I am optimistic, too. The alternative isn't worth considering.
And not because my head is dug into the sand. I can't be that pessimistic, or my head would be buried.

8. I wish I could still muster a bit of faith in our country
but I just don't see a basis for it. :-(

10. I feel 'movement'. Everyone is angry, and they are trying their best
to do something about it. From the House to the Cindy Sheehans to the CodePinks to the Senate, there is action. Lots of opinions, but movement, and it's a beautiful thing, as slow of a slog that it is.
I think we might be watching a bit of democracy, finally. I'm not demoralized in the slightest, and I know you are. Please don't be; I think things are about to get better, because the jig is up, and lots of people know it.

12. Here's to optimism!
:toast:
We still have opportunities to reclaim the foundations on which America was built. It will be a challenge and struggle, but, the people have to stand up for their American values.

14. I would say the digging starting on Jan 21, 1981
Ronny Raygun started digging the hole, with Bill filling it a little. We as a country started to lower the casket on December 12, 2000. Unless we win in 2008, and get rid of the pukes from congress, we might as well start covering that casket that contains democracy and freedom.

16. The US was never the US
as people have been deluded into believing. Well before the Bush Regime took power the US has done awful things to those who are undesireables.

Recall Haymarket Square 1886, Ludlow 1913, the Espionage Acts of WWI or even earlier of the John Adams presidency, Slavery, The Native Question, The trials of Sacco and Vanzetti, the trial of Charles Butler McVay III.

A fantastic system of control has been devised to keep a trickle of money flowing which placates the masses and enriches the controlers.

And it's not anarchy (anarchy- without leaders), it's Plutocracy...

17. Yep, and it took me almost 60 years to see it.
It hasn't been easy to come to terms with the fact that the good ol' USA ain't the same one they told me about in American History in high school.
