Feingold Hits Obama Adminstration Over Extrodinary Rendition Decsion
Source: Buzz Flash

The current extraordinary rendition case is being taken by some critics as a hint that the new administration may prove to be insufficiently aggressive in reversing Bush-era legal justifications for certain aspects of what used to be called the “war on terror,” as well as the Bush administration’s use of “national security” as a shield against charges of general governmental wrongdoing.

I had initially understood this issue, via a D.U. post, that a court conversation between a Judge and a bush appointed judicial spokesperson, Mr. Letter, was somehow not to be accurate concerning current administration States Secrets policy. It was suggested that this issue was being reviewed by the New Attorney General. Senator Feingold's comments make me think that President Obama is not changing the Bush's Administrative views on this issue.

6. Mr. Letter -- career DOJ- not a low-tier Bush flunky, as some had speculated.

9. Rendition is seen as a loophole to the Geneva Convention, Even though the loophole is CLOSED.
Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 10:37 PM by Wizard777
We cannot transfer a POW to anyone that will not abide by the Geneva Convention. Abidng by the Geneva Convention is no part of the rendition program. If we transfer POWS to anyone and find that they are not abiding by the Geneva Convention. Then we must seek their return. When we turned Saddam Hussein over to Iraq for execution. That was a violation of the Geneva Convention. He was executed before the six month waiting period for the Execution of POWS. Rendition can also be called transportation. Which was one of our chief complaints against the original King George. I don't see how this could be acceptable by ANY concept of American values.
