Is it possible the mother of 10 got paid under the table?
Was she a test chamber for a new process for a medical doctor or a pharmaceutical company?

I know,.... so what if she was... but what was her motivation for having 10 more kids when she already had 6? It had to be money. I think she was a test dummy for the big corporations and told to keep her mouth shut..

IMHO :tinfoilhat:

1. She's a loon.
There's some scary mental illness there...and some doctor still agreed to provide her with fertility drugs...

3. I hear the same eerie cry of the loons across the lake, Mercutio.
Octomom does seem like she's got more kids than common sense.

And according to reports, she has been struggling with significant mental illness:

And hello to you, by the way. Happy 20009.

6. I read that...and it raises a few issues.
We need better care for the mentally ill in this country.

I also have a problem with a doctor who would provide fertility services to a young woman of questionable stability who already has six children.

...and greetings, saltpoint!

8. Nicely stated -- in prose that easily eclipses the
written accounts of this story in the news.

I look forward, as always, to your posts on DU, Mercutio.

12. I have only compassion for the woman, her kids, and the woman's family.
It brings up issues like should mentally ill people be allowed to reproduce and how or when would they be or not?

I think this woman and her family should seek out Repo and fundie groups and allow them the opportunity to show their compassion for babies and families.

According to what I read the grandmother said the doctor had already been told and agreed to no more prior to implanting the eight. So there's the chance that economic exploitation to the detriment of the patients health could be proved, if that info pans out.

15. Post partum women can get really severe symptoms.
It almost makes sense (in a disordered way) that she'd rather be pregnant than go through that. Depression, paranoia, anxiety, all kinds of uglies.

18. Very possible. I think advice was likely offered in the treatment she
sought which resulted in the diagnoses of significant mental disorders, including Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

From all reports she intends to return to school to finish her master's in counseling. I'm not sure I'd be willing to recommend her at this point to help others when she seems overwhelmed to the extent that she can't help herself.

There are 14 younguns in her household now. Her own mother calls her 8-kid headline plunge "unconscionable."

I'm adding this up and not getting a great environment for those kids.

4. I have to concur. That woman has a fragile grasp on reality.
I feel sorry for her mother.

14. There was something she said
when asked how she was going to be able to take care of them all.
She said "the volunteers" would help. How would anyone get the idea there are volunteers to help raise your children unless it was suggested by someone. That someone is likely a tv show developer.

16. Every mother of multiples
ends up with a ton of volunteers. I don't think it took a TV show developer to tell her. As much as these other births were publicized she is probably expecting the same. It would makes sense to.
