Today, Thursday 12 February, we celebrate 200 years since Charles Darwin, one of the world's most creative and influential thinkers, was born.

Darwin200 is a national programme of events honouring his scientific ideas and their impact. The celebrations have already begun and will continue until 24 November 2009, the 150th anniversary of the publication of his famous book, On the Origin of Species.

The godbotherers somehow won't let the guy rest. Never understood why that one gets them all up in arms but things like plate tectonics, which similarly posit a changing creation due to natural mechanisms, don't seem to get their uptight intellectually dishonest panties in a bunch.

5. I think the reason they hate evolution more than plate tectonics is is pretty simple:

Humans = monkeys.

At least if we take them at their word they get upset by the idea that God didn't create everything as it is. While the "monkey" thing gets a lot of grief, they spend as much effort trying to find holes in non-human evolution too, so it can't just be about people being special.
