Last night at Ford's theater

1. Nice to know the uber wealthy can still have fun. n/t

2. Somehow I don't feel that was appropriate

Ford's Theater will always be associated with a Presidential Assassination, and so to me hijinks like this are not appropriate. But then again I still cry when I visit Lincoln's tomb in Springfield.

3. You will be unhappy to know that...

...I spent a considerable amount of my turgid youth throwing 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor at rats in the alley behind Ford's Theater, down which Booth made his escape. That alley also led to the back door of the old 9:30 Club, and it was rarely locked or guarded. So me and the lads would get good and soused, and then help ourselves to a show.

Unsurprisingly, the subject of Lincoln and the assassination rarely came up, and our behavior was anything but appropriate with that in mind. I've since grown into a lover of history and a very fortunate one at that, but people must also live their lives, and occasionally act like fools to remind themselves that they are living.

7. Actually, I have no problem with that

you didn't know about what happened there so long ago. But in this case, the opening was in honor of Lincoln. To my mind, that makes a bit of a difference.

5. it may be a national shrine, but it's also a theater -

and don't forget, it was playing a comedy that night.

And with Lincoln's sense of humor, I think he'd appreciate them having a little fun.

6. Lincoln was a humorist himself

It is said he carried a very well read copy of Joe Miller's Joke Book around with him.

That aside, I just thought the face making was a bit ridiculous. If the man were 7, it would have been cute, maybe. But realize that I've been a rather serious person since I was very young, and was raised by Victorian grandparents who stressed propriety.
