Singer Toby Keith takes security into own hands at Ky. concert

PIKEVILLE, Ky. -- Country music singer Toby Keith offered a fan more than hit performances at a recent eastern Kentucky concert.

The Appalachian News-Express reports that Keith went into the audience and offered to fight a man who threw a beer at the stage during a concert Saturday night.

Keith's publicist, Elaine Schock, says the incident began with the man being disruptive during the concert at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.

After the man threw a beer, Keith left the stage and chased him down. Schock says that when Keith caught up to the man, he told him words to the effect of, "If you want a piece of me, I'm right here."

Schock and Exposition Center manager Steve St. John say there was no fight, but the incident received national attention when a video of Keith's apology to the crowd was posted to TMZ.com.

1. People who throw bottles on stage are scumbags
Toby Keith is a pretty big dude also, probably not someone you want to fight.

10. Really?
Reggae is filled with such folks as Buju Banton and his songs that encourage the killing and maiming of gay people. Lots of 'artists' like that, in a country that is dangeous for GLBT folks.
I love the music of Marely and Tosh, and many many others. But to pretend that One Love vibe is universal to the genre, or that the genre and its fans are automatically beter than others, is simply false.
Like other genres, Reggae is what the artist makes it. Last Reggae show I 'attended was a protest againt the hate filled lyrics of Banton. While I do not in any way claim that he represents reggae, I also do not accept that reggae is all peace and love and no Banton.
The truth is often no fun.

16. But strange things do happen...
In 2007 I was at the Key Club on Sunset stip to see Midnite. This one girl in the audience (who was just high as she wanted to be) kept trying to climb up on stage. Over and over. She actually made it a few times and would just go up and stand next to the lead singer with this strange grin on her face. Security would take her off stage and five minutes later she'd be climbing right back up. After four or five times they finally asked her to leave. The crowd was laughing each time, because she wasn't actually doing like the deranged fan thing and trying to hug band members or do anything other than get up on stage and stand next to the singer.

http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2008/06/25/2008-06-25_tim_mcgraw_ejects_fan_from_show.html

Ever see the video from last summer? Classic. I'm not a big fan of either performer (or modern country in general), but dragging a basher on stage in the middle of "Indian Outlaw," tossing him to some security goons and then launching right back into the song with the lyrics, "Ain't lookin' for trouble..." is like something out of a movie. Video's at the link.

And btw, Jason Ringenberg is a very literate and intelligent lyricist. Nothing "retarded" (to use your rather offensive term) about his work.

9. I was on stage at a sold-out show at The Salt Palace...
When someone threw a pint whiskey bottle at the stage. It hit me in the ball of my ankle joint and dropped me to the ground. I have been hit in the head with quarters and nearly knocked out. On stage.

On the other hand, I have physically removed, all on my own, throwers and guys who beat on women at the barrier, to get a better spot. That was great fun.

24. Have to agree...
lived and owned a mobile home for 10 years in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Bought it for 24,000 sold it for over 100,000 ten years later. It was bigger than the home I own now. The up side is I own the land now, but that mobile home provided me with a nice down and additional income for 5 years (I carried the paper on the loan).

29. Toby Keith hardly invented that one.
I seem to remember something about Axl Rose jumping into the crowd and beating the shit out of some asshole who threw a bottle at him onstage, and that was 20 years ago.

Even before that, Bono jumped into a crowd at an early U2 show and broke up a fight, and told the guy who started it to "get the fuck out of here, and never come to one of our concerts again".

Besides, shouldn't Toby have "put a boot in his ass" like his obnoxious war propaganda song said?

50. Wrong. He's a lying P.O.S. who has ONLY donated $$ to Repukes.
He claims to have been against the war and to be a Democrat. Why, then, did he donate $2000 to Bush in 2003 and ANOTHER $2000 in January 2006 to the RNC? There are NO donations to any Democratic candidate or Democratic or progressive organization listed.

http://www.newsmeat.com/celebrity_political_donations/Toby_Keith.php

I despise Toby Keith. He's too much of a chicken and an opportunist to admit what he really is. He reminds me a little of LIEberman in this way.

true, a conservative Democrat, but not a republican.

He is weird one, though: supported Bush for the re-election, has supported other Democrats, is a very good friend of Bill Richardson, and thinks Obama is the wonderful. Didn't support the Iraq War.

36. This is seriously NOT news.
This is normal everyday behavior for that corner of the planet. The folks who would see Toby Keith at that venue are the very definition of "hillbilly" - and they wear that label with pride. Both sides of my family come from that general area. Fortunately Mom and Dad escaped to Detroit for work but the rest of the "kinfolk" are back in them hills and hollers.
