GOP hopes to rebound with ads

House Republicans are hoping to salvage a big loss on the economic stimulus bill by making it a political millstone for moderate Democrats.

The party’s campaign arm will start airing radio ads Friday in approximately 30 Democratic districts to argue that the bill violates the lawmakers’ campaign pledge to restore fiscal responsibility to Washington.

Public opinion, though slipping, currently favors President Barack Obama and his package of spending and tax cuts to bolster the retreating economy. So Republicans are making a long-term gamble that opposition to the package will look prescient two years from now if the economy is still struggling.

In the ads, the National Republican Congressional Committee used the words of the targeted lawmakers against them and calls the bill a “wasteful pork barrel program that will cost taxpayers nearly a trillion dollars,” according to a preliminary script.

13. Do people not get the simple facts of this

The war in Iraq will cost $3 trillion when all is said and done. Bush's tax cuts (which mostly went to the wealthy and did little to stimulate the economy) cost around 2 trillion. The GOP wanted a package of 900 billion in tax cuts (mostly for the wealthy) in the stimulus bill.

Are people really too dumb to know which party oversaw the national debt double from 5.6 trillion to 10 trillion? Are they too dumb to know that the GOP is a party that gladly puts debts onto the next generation for war and tax cuts for the rich however aid to the middle class, or to save the economy, or for education, or to stop levees and bridges from collapsing is wasteful?

Personally I think many people will figure out that simple fact. The GOP is becoming even more of a wingnut haven and any pragmatic, rational person left in that party is rapidly leaving.

We have to do our part to go on the offensive with this fact. The GOP is perfectly happy with massive debts just as long as it is spent on unnecessary wars and ineffective tax cuts for the rich. Tax cuts for the middle class, or competent infrastructure spending or assistance to help people get an education or healthcare is wasteful to them. People need to know the simple fact of what the GOP stands for.

Ineffective tax cuts on the wealthy (who don't need them) and unnecessary wars that destroy morale = ok

Spending to stop an economic meltdown, to help people get an education and healthcare, to keep our economy sustainable and to end dependence on foreign oil = wasteful

This simple fact of what their values are should make any rational person abandon the GOP on the spot.
