Florida GOP Vice chair trying to get county committeewoman reinstated. Remember her racist email?
The woman who sent a racist email to friends is seeking to get back her job as GOP committeewoman. She is getting the help of the state vice chairman.

From FLA Politics blog:

RPOF committeewoman attempts comeback

State party Vice Chairman Allen Cox is trying to drum up support statewide for Carter, who on Wednesday sought to rescind her resignation as Hillsborough County's state committeewoman.

State party Chairman Jim Greer, however, said on Wednesday that he considers Carter's resignation final, raising the possibility it could generate a high-level battle in the party.

In an e-mail Monday to party activists in Florida, Cox says, "We know Carol to be a person of integrity without any prejudice, and to characterize her otherwise is slander." He asks them to e-mail or call Carter and urge her not to resign.

Remember that email that brought up the topic of Katrina in a very ugly way?

GOP committeewoman in FL sends racist email...about inauguration, blacks, and Katrina.

From: Carol Carter
Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 9:30 AM
Subject: FW: Amazing!

I'm confused

How can 2,000,000 blacks get into Washington, DC in 1 day in sub zero temps when 200,000 couldn't get out of New Orleans in 85 degree temps with four days notice?

Carol Carter

She later apologized, laying the blame on her friends who could not keep a secret. She said they were not team players.

I have been asked to send this apology for my earlier email. I am sorry that it was received in a negative manner. I do hope that we are going to be allowed to keep our sense of humor. As you can now see, it went to very few people. I did add Todd Marks in this apology, as he is in the mix now. I am also sorry to learn that some of these persons are not real team players. There really was no reason for this to go beyond those that I emailed (8 people). This was not an email blast as I do not have that capability.

Carol

Now according to FLA Politics, she wants to take back her resignation.

Carol Carter asked the state party chairman, Jim Greer, on Wednesday to rescind the resignation she submitted last Thursday. She said she apologized and suggested that all executive committee members, including herself, attend sensitivity training.

2. Other executive committee members probably pissed.
"We have to have sensitivity training because you sent a dumb-ass email?!"

She's trying to make her faux pas a communal affair. Is she saying that they are all insensitive racist boobs? Maybe they are. Why did she send it unless she was pretty sure it would be well-received? I hope this drags on and on.

9. This is so wrong on so many levels.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 12:59 PM by FLyellowdog
But basically...as someone who is in a position of power, authority, or leadership, she should have known better than to denegrade any group of persons. Whether we want to admit it or not, being politically correct is the high road that will lead this country towards more inclusion. Professional behavior is to be expected and demanded by those we look to for guidance. Carter did not show a lack of sensitivity...she showed a lack of character. Apparently lack of character in Democrats is horrendous, but in Republicans it's excusable. It's time we held both parties to the same standards.

16. Political Correctness = Plain Courtesy
The people who bemoan so-called "political correctness" are typically the kind of people who long for a return to the days when white males were the only people entitled to respect.

20. St Pete Times covers this some more.
http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/article975530.ece

" Take Republicans trying to get some cred as an evolved, forward-thinking group after a top Hillsborough party member made news by e-mailing a racially insensitive joke. Holding your head up as the subsequent shrapnel flies is even tougher when it's the third time your party has weathered race-related e-mails. Teachable moment, anyone? Maybe in a class called "When Not to Send."

Carol Carter, a state committeewoman representing Hillsborough, followed with: I am sorry that it was received in a negative manner. I do hope that we are going to be allowed to keep our sense of humor. Well, that's … sorta like an apology.

Yes, you have the right to decide what you find funny, even if your punch line involves people left homeless and destitute by a killer hurricane, even if others might find it mean-spirited, insensitive or offensive. If it reflects on your job, your colleagues might get to weigh in, too.

Republicans made appropriate sounds of regret and resolve. Credibility-wise, maybe it helped that as this was happening, the Republican National Committee announced its first black chairman. (See? We're not like that!) Carter resigned.

And now, she wants her job back. Incredible or predictable? You decide."

22. Bull. Shit.
"We know Carol to be a person of integrity without any prejudice, and to characterize her otherwise is slander."

Can someone explain to me why someone without prejudice would send such an email? I think terms like "racial prejudice" and "integrity" must mean something different to the GOP: if you're not burning crosses on lawns, you're a model citizen.

screw racists (of any party)...she is merely another posterchild for the GOP...and i say let her keep on doing her thing...she'll send more people our way while 'entertaining' the batshit racist crazies that 'appreciate' her already...

24. Pointing the finger at others:

"I am also sorry to learn that some of these persons are not real team players. "

and she didn't really apologize.

And the others should attend sensitivity training, because of HER?

Typical addict behavior. Typical Republican behavior.

said she was sorry "it was received in a negative manner".

It wasn't received in a "negative manner", you stupid shit. It was SENT IN A NEGATIVE MANNER.

Sometimes I feel so sorry for all of you who live in Florida. It must be . . . well, maddening.

26. This is just a reminder that Florida IS the South. . .
Yeah, at this time of year, especially, it feels like it's just another northern state (or Canada) because we've got so damned many tourists goobering up the place, but when you get right down to it, this place is full of racist crackers. The coastal communities (outside of the biggest cities) are all about white retirees and travel brochures, but you get inland and you see it. Where else would you find the world's biggest damned confederate flag proudly flying along the interstate?

Every once in a while, I have an experience that just chills me to the bone and I realize how many people here look upon segregation as the halcyon days. This woman obviously comes from that gene pool. Ptooey.

28. I feel so sorry for her! poor thing!
"I do hope that we are going to be allowed to keep our sense of humor."

No, Carol...you're NOT going to be allowed to keep your sense of humor! President Barack Obama has been elected POTUS, and along with that shocking piece of horrible news (yes, you are now expected to show deference to a black man), you are now also being told what you can and can't find funny!!!!

OH, the horrors, the victimhood....I can't tell you how sorry I am for you! Why, the hardships you white princesses from the GOP have to endure, it never ends! And then, to have to apologize! Well, I never!

You were so right to hold your ground. It isn't your fault some traitor took your email the wrong way. I certainly find the horrific deaths of hundreds of people humorous. Ha ha ha ha.....

Course, they're not people. We know that.... they're colored. so....

It's just a joke, right Carol????

In a just world, Carol should have to be an african american without a car during Katrina. A nice stay in the Dome should help Carol grasp just how sorry I feel for her.
